Is Adele overrated?

She can write a phenomenal love song. I can't think of another artist nowadays who can sing about love and heartbreak as wonderfully as Adele.

That being said, that's what her discography has revolved around and for me to really respect an artist, I like to see diversity.

So in some ways I think Adele deserves the praise she gets, but in other ways I do find her to be overrated.

No. She is a classic singer and songwriter. Adele is not even one of my all time favorites, but she is all that everyone thinks that she is and deserves every bit of her winning success. She is an absolute unmistakable talent and proves it time and time again. She is a nod back to what music is meant to be and presented to us as, it feeds the soul through sound and makes our feelings explore and explode outwards.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

I think it goes with the music industry, there are always "overrated" artists, and yes Adele might be "overrated" in the way that her sales are quite over the top really, but I'm glad it happens to Adele because she IS amazing and she IS really talented, so if there's one artist to be overrated, I rather want that artist to be Adele.

No. I mean, I get where you're going but you also have to listen to what Adele is specifically praised for instead of taking the praise itself as a guideline to how people think about her.

People praise her for writing intimate love songs, her voice and her elegant and yet powerful performance style. Is there anything in that sentence that doesn't perfectly fit Adele as an artist?

I have yet to see a music critic call her a songwriter of mythical proportions and I have never ever heard anyone say that Adele somehow is an innovator (quite the opposite actually, but not necessarily in a negative way either) of music so I think you yourself are overrating the praise she's getting which is far more specific and careful than you're willing to admit.

Wow. You're absolutely right. The things she's praised for are actually things she does well. Usually when an artist is "overrated" it's because they're getting credit for things they don't actually do well.

You've changed my mind. Adele deserves every ounce of the praise she gets, because that praise is rooted in things Adele actually does do well.

YES, ABSOLUTELY.

So many artists have done or are doing her style so much better and they don't get anywhere near the attention or praise she does. There's an artist like her in every genre - the one where you can't for the life of you work out why, out of the vast array of amazing artists the genre has to offer, does this so-so one gain traction. I notice that even her haters say that the one thing she does have going for her is her voice. But I disagree. She got that vocal haemorrage because her technique was awful. You can hear the cracks in her voice, she really shouts her lyrics at times and there's a really annoying edge to her voice when she sings the high notes (Chasing Pavements is a good example of this). It's evident even on studio recordings. And I find the sound of an artist straining their notes out to be very difficult to listen to. Look up the negative reviews on amazon and you'll find people saying the same thing. Her songs all sound basically the same, both in theme, lyrics and production. She just seems to have one song in her and can't experiment or is too afraid to.

Whenever I think of Adele, I just see her fading away in the next few years. If she's going to keep making the same songs and taking long breaks, it'll certainly happen. We tend to be all over a big sensation like her but most of them don't last (especially the ones that rely on ballads - the public gets bored of that real fast). So, I don't see the point in getting so worked up. Most artists now usually don't get more than 3 albums worth of mega success, and some are lucky to get even that. Artists who were deemed to be massively talented (Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis, etc) have ended up flopping and disappearing after a couple of successes. It happens to the best of them. So I don't know why, after seeing how many come and go, that we think Adele will be any different. Enjoy every artist while it lasts because you never know how long that could be.

IMO, yes.

So many musicians do the things y'all are praising Adele for, but they aren't even getting 1/8 of the attention.

Of course Adele is talented, and I like her music. However, I just don't think it's good enough for Adele to be considered some sort of deity in the music industry. I gave 21 another listen, and I still don't get the hype.

Adele might not be overrated by the GP but it's getting a little bit overrated in forums/stanning culture, i saw many post saying how they never were fans of her until Hello, of course their opinion are biased because Adele is slaying so much, the same happened with Taylor, little bandwagoners everywhere

Just to clear up one thing. Vocal hemorrhages come from polyps, which normally come for years of overuse. (But can come from trying to sing through a cold or virus) Julie Andrews had this same surgery. She did not have terrible technique. Lionel Richie had the same surgery. He did not have terrible vocal technique.

Countless Broadway singers and stars have had polyps and many required surgery. Sutton Foster just went through this last year and she has excellent technique and is extremely careful with her vocal health. Countless professional opera singers have had polyps and surgery, although this is a big secret in that world. They go away and hide for a few weeks or months, like stars do with plastic surgery. Lol These opera singers do not have terrible vocal technique.
