I love Jessica but this is quite true, people are judgmental af when it comes to Gaga but are acknowledging Jessica so easily because she's delivered a few amazing projects. Jessica is AMAZING but her advantage does not apply to Gaga and people have to eradicate the discrepancy in how they judge actors.

Yep, people can be so willing to go into it ready to pan her just because she's a popstar IMO. She's honestly been perfectly serviceable in the role, and I say this as someone who likes her, but takes off the stan goggles when necessary.

Some of the criticisms I've read have been ridiculous, it's stuff like "she's just relying on charisma and screen presence" or "she's just playing herself/I can't get past her as Lady Gaga." Also, some don't care for the cold hearted, alien quality she's bringing to Elizabeth and yet turn around and praise Evan for the huge slice of ham he's bringing to his role. Yet if she wasn't as subtle and decided to go full scene-chewing crazy with the role they'd probably be complaining about that too.
