Economy 53,130
Not surprising it would be difficult for Harper to win a 4th term. Global economic weakness is hitting Canada and people will blame ones in power even if its not their fault But really the policies the Liberals have presented are not that different from the Conservatives in most aspects... Only a few minor details are different even his plan to overspend on infrastructure is only a deficit equivalent to 0.5% of GDP so its not enough to have a drastic effect financially or economically This "real change" Trudeau talks about actually isnt much change at all. If the NDP were elected wed feel more differences for better or for worse

I wouldn't have a vote for him , neither for NDP maybe the greens or the liberals I guess. but I am only a foreign student so in a way I am glad I don't have to vote, I wouldn't know enough yet regarding politics but i am generally left wing for social values and freedom but more liberal when it comes to what the government should regulate in our lives. I think it's difficult though in country like Canada where there is some diversity between provinces simply because thy will have different needs, I don't know how it is so far but more initiative and power given to provinces would be the best IMO, even in France a centralised government is a failure. Warholian 6,880
We can now say we have the s-xiest Prime Minister in the world. Nice. Kevin Parker, Mac Demarco, Mark Ronson, and a stoned Lady Gaga. Need I say more?
Luc 4,776
I don't really know their manifesto, but more progressive is always better.Has Canada legalized euthanasia yet? And do the liberals want to legalize weed? How are they when it comes to global warming?Just read what they want, and it's actually very fiscally responsible. This government will almost definitly make the Canadian economy grow more than a Conservative government would, thanks to increased investments. I just disagree with increased foreign aid and the extra help for veterans. Other than that, the Canadian debt to GDP will become lower anyways and it's already at a very healthy level. Pot is not legal though, the Liberals want to legalize it. Ummm economically most of their platform is the same.... - They want to maintain Corporate tax at 15%- They want to drop small business tax from 11% to 9% (all 3 major parties did)- Most programs are to get simmilar funding and most tax rules are to be the same Theres only 3 bigger differences - Under Liberals a small change to income tax bracket between $45,000 to $90,000 to drop from 22% down to 20.5% and a new tax bracket over $200,000 with a tax rate of 33%. The Conservatives wanted income splitting for families instead. - Another difference is Liberals pledge more Environmental regulation of oil sands- Liberals wanna run 3 years of $10 Billion deficits for infrastructure The tax changes are too small to impact anybody significantly. And the deficits are only 0.5% of GDP so the Debt to GDP ratio will still fall from the current 31% every year as long as the economy grows at least 1.5%. If the socialist NDP won there would be more changes... But a Liberal victory might only have felt changes on stuff such as pot. Economically speaking their platform is not that different from the Conservatives surprisingly. It usually is more different.

Canadian Provinces already have more power than most sub-soverein Governments tho... give them any more power and were not really a Nation anymore we would become more like a Union And personality speaking its hard to tell. Harper was always so calm and never raised his voice. Thats rare for a Nation leader... ud swear he was always about to pass out Economicaly i think they did pretty good. The Liberals seem to have good ideas too and they are not that different from the Conservative anyway. They are definitely more liberal in some things like legalizing pot. I dunno if i support that or not tho. Too many pros and cons to consider

Our Governor General signs everything n the name of the Queen and does all her duties in her name Queen Elizabeth is our Queen by name symbolically only. She doesnt actually have any real power over Canada

Economically speaking their platform is not that different from the Conservatives surprisingly. It usually is more different. I think the investment in infrastructure will lead to a stronger economy, so that's good. It's also good how the Liberals are more focused on boosting innovation and improving education than the conservatives, because that's where real growth is. Lowering taxes for middle wages will increase buying power so that's good too. A higher tax bracket for the highest incomes will reduce income inequality and that's also been proven to boost growth. Education is going to cost less which is good for the economy long-term. Pot legalized will mean a considerable cut in police and jails, and could result in more tourism for Canada and small economic growth because of a new market (that used to be a black market). Making statistics more trustworthy is also a very good step. Investing in green alternatives also boosts innovation and boosts the economy. I guess it's just good only the oil sands regulations will hurt the economy, other than that, economically speaking, I think the Liberals' programme is superior to the Conservatives'. And also they're more progressive, so I actually wonder why you'd have supported the Conservatives considering the economic policy is not really that different (actually, the Liberals' is better because they use the current low interest rates to their advantage). Income splitting has the flaw of only helping some families but Trudeaus tax cut is extremely small. Cutting income taxes by 1.5% on bracket between $45,000 to $90,000 means a typical household making $66,000 will only enter the bracket by $21,000. Thats a tax savings of $315 per year or less than $30 a month. Thats extremely small. On top of that the Liberals wanna raise payroll taxes a little and that discourages raises which may cancel out any benefits from a small income tax cut I do agree with investing more in infrastructure and innovation though especially since Canadas finances will still improve. Even with annual deficits of $10 Billion the debt to GDP ratio will fall below 30% by next year and continue falling gradually as long as economic growth is at least 1.5% (they expect 2%) i have mixed feeling about their position on pot legalization tho The reason i still supported the Conservatives is because i know what they stand for and theyve delivered their promisses. Also im against the Liberal plan to reverse old age security back to 65. The Conservatives raised it to 67 to help deal with an aging population reality and i think the Liberals only plan to bring it back to 65 to win over votes tbh . Also the Liberals have criticized Harpers Military cuts and said he was being stingy with military. Though the Liberals havent propose military increases for next couple budgets, they likely will in the future But again Im not too upset with Liberals. The majority of the economic platform is very Simmilar. I was more worried about the Socialist NDP winning but they turned out to do terrible this election
