Two Israelis have been killed and more than a dozen left injured after two Palestinian attackers launched a gun and knife attack on a bus in Jerusalem in what has been labelled a "day of rage".

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said two attackers stabbed and shot people on the Egged line 78 bus in Jerusalem’s Armon HaNatziv neighbourhood, before being captured at the scene. Two Israeli passengers were killed, with one of the attackers now also confirmed as dead.

Almost simultaneously, there was another stabbing attack in a different part of the city. Here an attacker rammed his car into a bus stop in central Jerusalem, then began stabbing pedestrians, killing at least one and wounding others.

Meanwhile, in the centeal Israeli city of Ra’anana, a Palestinian attacker stabbed and lightly wounded an Israeli on a shopping street, before being apprehended and beaten by locals. He was arrested and taken to hospital.

Another knife-wielding attacker also struck in Ra’anana a few hours later, wounding four people.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an emergency session of his security cabinet in Jerusalem after the wave of attacks.

In Raanana, a shopkeeper said he heard shouting, grabbed a heavy wooden umbrella, and ran outside to confront the assailant.

"He started stabbing the guy. I hit him a couple of times and kicked him and the knife flew out of his hand," the store owner said. "I wish I had had a gun - I would have shot him."

Since the Jewish New Year last month, six Israelis have been killed and dozens wounded in a shooting, a stoning and a series of stabbings, as unrest continues to mount.

Anyone who supports it is simply barbaric and vile. There is no justification to behave like that. It's time for moderate Muslims to take action and to make a clear stand against what extremist from their religion are doing around the world.

What do Muslims living on the other end of the world have to do with this conflict or even this particular attack though? I agree that there's no justification for this behavior but I find the leap from that statement to the equally unjustifiable "moderate Muslims need to take a stand" message very short-sighted.

I mean, what exactly can absolutely normal and insignificant moderate Muslims, who have no political ties whatsoever, do in your opinion to "make a clear stand" against this behavior? There are plenty of Jewish organizations who oppose Israel's policies too so I think you're overestimating what religious opposition could do when religions are obviously not unified enough to argue that one Muslim can convince another just because they both believe in Allah..

what the FUUUUUUUUUUCK

Why the HELL would you decide to kill random person?! I mean, it's not okay to kill anyone, but to just come in bus and kill whoever it is in it... I can't.

Even if Israel's goverment is doing something wrong (which can still be argued), does that justify terrorists to attack innocent Israelis on the street, stabbing and shooting them?

No its not right but this is what happens when occupation and apartheid exist against a group of people.. black people in the US are way more violent that whites and I dont support their violence but I do recognize the reasons for that and same things with palestinians. Stop oppressing people and violence will stop.

Mandela did support killing innocent european civilians with guns and actually killed many.

Islamic terrorism is a world-wide problem. It has strike Europe, The US and even South America during the last decades. Nevertheless, There are 2 Million Israeli-Muslims and about 3 more Palestinian Muslims - do you think it's something that shouldn't bug them at all?

Saying "when occupation and apartheid exist against a group of people...I do recognizee the reasons for that" and at the same time you say that "No its not right" is a contradiction.

You can't recognize a reason behind killing innocent people who have nothing to do with this conflict. It wasn't the Israeli bus passenger who was stabbed in the bus that is responsible for the Palestinian-Israeli feud, now was he? It wasn't the Israeli woman who was stabbed in front of her children in the ancient city that was responsible for the conflict, right?
