Economy 52,845
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/what-the-liberals-economic-plan-would-mean-for-canada/article26838610/ The polls suggest the Liberals will win and defeat the Conservatives with 37% of the votes... Why is this a big deal? The conservetives have been in power for about a decade... and because theyve had a majority Government, virtually all their decisions passed with opposition unable to stop anything so the Country changed a lot in 10 years Government spending as a % of GDP dropped to record lows. Corporate Taxes have plummeted to 15%, Investment taxes, pay roll taxes are all down. Additional tax cuts were implemeted this year in the form of income splitting and higher limits on tax-free savings accounts. The Government is running budget surpluses and Government has been stingy to spend on anything The Liberals have a totally different plan for Canada. They wanna raise taxes on rich again, increase spending on infrastructure, raise pensions, run deficits again. They also do not support all the free trade agreements Canada has made. If Liberals (or less likely if NDP Win) Canada will go back to direction of socialism as it was known for 40 years between 1960s and early 2000s

Economy 52,845
Bernie's impact! #FeelTheBern - Debt to GDP of 31% (lowest in G7 and one of the lowest in developed world) - Budget Surpluses - Tax Cuts - Free Trade Agreements to spur innovation - necessairy reforms to pension system to deal with aging population reality - Winning over Corporations headquartering from all over the world (Burger King for example) This is what we achieved after 10 years of a right winged Government so dont criticize I admit tho they had their flaws. Their stinginess to spend and to cut spending so much has resulted in infrastructure falling behind. Also they focused so much on growing energy sector that they didnt fight very hard to help struggling manufacturing sector (even though most of the policies that killed it here from Provincial Governments i think)

Economy 52,845
I really really hope so i dont anyone can make good promisses for the short term when you opnely admit your gonna over-spend but that doesnt mean thats the smart thing to do long term Also i question why Justin Trudeau wants to reverse social security back to 65 when the change to 67 that was done to try to deal wioth the reality of an aging population The Federal Liberals i fear will end up like Ontarios Liberals. They dont wanna make any tough choices and overspend to please people here and now and kick can down the road with no thought of the concequences later on In the mean time Ontarios debt is massive and our crazy hydro rates from their mishandeling of the hydro system is killing manufactuing Good job liberals. Economy 52,845
It was a joke oh ok nvm curious... what government do u usually support on the spectrum? and set aside conservative vs liberal on social issues cause here in Canada all 3 major parties are relatively liberal. We have 3 distinct parties Progressive Conservatives (right winged) Liberals (Centre-Wing) NDP (left winged socialists) Although in this election it seems a bit odd cause in some aspects the Liberals have acted more left winged than the NDP which is not normal. I guess who they chose as a party lead may reflect that :ahrug:

Economy 52,845
Well, I'm going to vote for the NDP, but I'd rather have the Liberals win this time than have Stephen Harper win again. The NDP have some good ideas! I like their child day care plan. IT would encourage mroe stay at home parents to work and be productive. I think it would have a good economic multiplier I also like that they want to keep the budget balanced which is good! But theres 2 things about Mulcair that disturbs me: #1 he wants to raise Corporate Taxes. Canada has won many new corporations (burger king for example) by having low taxes we dont wanna stop that. The office condo boom in Toronto with all those jobs is in part being driven by growing corporate sector. Also lets not forget Corporations are actually public. People picture rich CEOs when they think of Corporations but everyone owns shares from Corporation in their CPP funds, RSPs, or even when you invest in mutual funds at the bank. Their performance affects everyones finances not just the rich #2 he seems even more out of touch with the aging problem than Justin Trudeau. He even said before keeping retirement age down helps the labor market. Every expert knows this is a myth since jobs are supported by economic activity (production and consumption) and retired people are neither producing cause they dont work and they consume less usualy because they have to cut spending. Not to mention the financial drain The Corporate taxes sint a huge concern cause Mulcair only wants to raise them by 2%. IF he doesnt raise them further its still fine... But aging population is the biggest long term threat to developed world, its talked about by experts all the time and we need to deal with it and Harper seems to be the only one willing to make unpopular decisions for reforms on that front But one thing i take the Liberals and NDP over Harper is them wanting to do more to help struggling manufacturing Sector. Harpers policies didnt harm manufacturing, Ontarios Government did. But that doesnt mean Harper couldnt have done more to try and save it and if theres one thing i dislike about Harper was his innaction on that front

Reps. and Dems. sometimes go to extremes and that's why they can't work together and we have these ridiculous situations where they can't come to an agreement on certain things and threaten government shutdown i agree extremes are never good. I consider myself "centre-right". I dont believe in extremes like flat taxes or no regulation... I just think some Government wanna over-tax the rich or regulate to the point that it backfires by stagnating investment and that actually hurts the middle class the most when theres no wage gains because of lack of labor competition and it actually raises income inequality Now Canadas Conservatives are very Right Winged... they are super Stingy on spending, cut taxes a lot and believe in strong free trade agreements with no Government barriers But because many Provincial Governments are left winged right now... it neutralizes some of what the Federal Government does so having a far right winged rule Canada feels more like a "centre-right" if you know what i mean. LeoFameMonster 1,592
It is funny how you say achieved, the only achievement Canada has made under a harper government is how corruption and racism works in politics.I am not going to debate politics with you because in your past posts it is clear your a conservative.Canada is demanding change which is why droves of people (including myself) went out to vote in record breaking numbers. The small minority want a Harper government who are fooled by his 54 million to spent on his campaign. Canadians wanted him out last election which is why so many have gone out this year to make sure he doesn't win again Fact: The federal debt in the fiscal year 1996-97 was $562.9-billion. By the time the Liberals left office in 2006, it was reduced to $481.5-billion • In contrast, by the year 2014-15, the Conservatives will have added $176,400,000,000 to the national debtAlso look up the debit that Canada had in all the years the liberals were in power and look up the debit conservatives had. Also talk about the recession we are in and how Harper is denying it. Haha bush politics and who supports him the Ford brothers and you.Canada's best fiscal year was in 2000 - 2001 when the federal government ran a $19.891 billion surplus (those were the days!) and its worst fiscal year was in fiscal 2009 - 2010 when the federal government ran a $55.598 billion deficit, erasing all of the gains that had been made between fiscal 2001 - 2002 and 2007 - 2008 in one fell swoopPS Steven Harper will be taken to court for bribing its already in motionI know I voted for Liberals and when they come into power and rectify the wrongs Harper did all Canadians, even you, yes you, will be cheering for liberals. And he is changing the way we vote so all voices are heard and the majority really wins which will inevitably lead to the end of the PC party. TiphEret 1,320
Well I don't know exactly all the details with the current government but what I can see is the cuts done at my university and as a results the way the teaching is done. Less money less teachers hired or on a part time basis. Some with more workload while they do research. They raises the fees that may be low considering what people in the US but I think education is the one thing that should be free because you get a competent and skilled workforce. One thing that really impacted me directly but I think that this was done by Québec only is raising the fees for French students. We still get a good deal compared to other international student, we pay the same fees as Canadians but actually some Quebecers friends argued that it's unfair that Canadian out of province pay more and they should lower their fees and keep the fees for French students down because they bring a lot to the economy ( we can't work that much anyway, it's not like we as student are taking much jobs but we are spending a lot) plus once we graduate we can stay and we already speak French so positive for Québec if they don't want their province to have a big increase in English speaking population (something that is arguable btw)...I don't know enough about Canadian politics though, in one way I don't like too much control of the state but I don't like economy running every decision especially when it concerns education and such because it's creating more gap already existing. It' s a tough compromise to reach, few taxes and good welfare, I guess almost impossible in our current system Sur le sable sur la neige, Sur les images dorées,Sur le front de mes amis, J’écris ton nom

And he is changing the way we vote so all voices are heard and the majority really wins which will inevitably lead to the end of the PC party. what u said is true but ur failing to take into account 2 things #1 the Liberals in the late 90s were faced with a critical financial situation. The debt to GDP of 70% in those days was very high because interest rates used to be a lot higher. They were FORCED to make tough decisions to cut spending and even raise some taxes The Liberals back then eventually made changes to reduce Government. But thats not what they are advocating for right now, in fact they are endorsing deficits so the past has no application to their current ideals they are endorsing now #2 come on are you serious? 2008 saw the biggest crash since the great depression. ANY Government would have ran large deficits during that time as Corporate and personal income taxes dropped, EI claims rose, and demand for stimulus spending was in place. Virtually every Countries deficits swelled those first years of the crisis. Still our deficits were some 4% of GDP at its worst year vs 9% to 10% in Japan, USA and much of Europe. And the deficits fell every year after what ur saying about the conservatives and finances isnt fair. These were unique circumstances. But they strongly advocate the ideal of balanced budgets exept for emergencies In 1997 they only woke up when they got desperate, just how Ontarios Liberals are only gettig tough on finances now that were finally getting desperate. and now that Canadas finances are good with a debt to GDP of 31% the liberals wanna overspend again. PS: our recession was technical. Drop in energy prices lowered GDP generated from comodities. But in practical terms this "recession" didnt happen other than the statistical contraction in GDP On a net basis jobs are still being created, consumer spending rising and housing market and other loans rising. That shouldnt be happening in a recession. So as i said, it was a technicality
