Kacey Elizabeth 900
I'm not getting distracted by the visuals... It's just the only thing about the performance that is good imo. You admit that her vocals and dancing are not good, she is weak as a live performer. I see crowds of people scream and cry at the sight of Kim Kardashian, it doesn't mean she is doing anything that incredible I mean, genuine question, what is it about this performance that you think is 'amazing' or 'incredible'?You admit that "Her vocals & dancing aren't the best" and then seem to justify that with a lot of vague comments about her "stage presence, star quality, charisma". It seems to me that you enjoy this performance because you like Katy. Not a terrible thing, but the way I'm interpreting that is that it's more about the celebrity and star power of Katy rather than her actual abilities as a performer. "Stage presence refers to a certain charm and charisma that a theater actor or performer possesses that draws in an audience and commands their full attention" is what you said stage presence, and here, the show I went to myself, and lots of other shows which others went to, Katy is doing exactly that. I don't know how to explain it - it's the aura that Katy has on stage which draws me besides the fact that I love her. It's like I feel her passion and love for performing on stage in front of her KatyCats and I also love the fact that she captivates the crowd and interacts with them. It's like I feel her passion and love for performing on stage in front of her KatyCats and I also love the fact that she captivates the crowd and interacts with them. I just can't see how Katy has stage presence. She doesn't seem confident or at ease, she looks awkward, stiff and wooden. The charm and charisma a performer possesses really comes from them being in their most comfortable state. Check out these three performances and compare them with Katy:Here Madonna is at her best. Strong, confident and in her zone doing a choreographed piece. It's effortless and she looks completely at ease. Here is Beyonce at her best. This performance is heavily choreographed and controlled, the timing has to be absolutely perfect. She looks powerful and at ease. This is Gaga at her best. Simple, understated with her piano and her voice. She lets her voice overpower the stadium. You can see the emotion in her face and she looks completely at ease. In comparison, Katy looks like a scared girl. She is completely out of her element. Her voice is shaky and her movements are awkward. That doesn't translate to confident, charming or charismatic. My main critique of Katy is that she is not a live performer. Performance is something that I value very highly and it's something that I don't see in Katy. If she was a good performer then she would be more aligned with my tastes but unfortunately she is not.It wouldn't bother me if you said you were a fan of Katy because think she crafts incredible pop songs or you find her music videos to be fun, care-free and not serious. That's cool, that's not what I'm looking for or what I value but I can respect that. It just seems like you can't seriously put Katy up there as a good performer, that's not her strength. This reminds me of the way Transformers and The Avengers frustrate my Screen Production lecturer. You can't compare these movies to the greats of cinema when they follow a basic structure, contain clichéd tropes, have gaping plot holes and rely on flashy CGI rather than expert direction. Katy is the Transformers of the music scene, perfectly harmless fun but not someone you can take seriously as a great performer. The aura you are talking about seems to be her celebrity. That's the only thing I can really imagine that can be captivating. You are watching a very beautiful famous woman with shaky vocals attempt simple choreography with a huge production behind her. Cool if that's for you, but that's not what I value in a performer.

I actually have watched the performances that you linked and they are incredible & perfect. I have admitted that this is not Katy's best so it's kind of unfair that you are comparing the best of those three and comparing them to this. Here, watch these two performances. http://youtu.be/hVzw8S8IeEA http://youtu.be/HEukkVaKZeA Her vocals are great in these two performances and she looks perfectly confident & charismatic. Katy at her best can do a lot and can be amazing. Your Candy Perfume Girl
mic 1,415
Everything looks and sounds epic until she starts singing, no shade just truth. It's such a powerful song and her voice lives up to it in audio, but never in live ha

Not those two performances being the best of Katy They still don't compare to the other performances You pulled out 2 videos where her voice was nice, but I mean she still wouldn't get through to the public vote in American Idol serving those vocals. She can sing nice when she isn't doing basic choreography I want more.

Her vocals were pass an extent that would get her the vote of American Idol. Coreagraohy is the art or practice of designing sequences of movements of physical bodies in which motion, form, or both are specified. So thecnically, in those two performances, she is doing a choreography AND singing live in front of others. Your Candy Perfume Girl

Creyk 17,819
What a great performance I wish we had a HQ professional recording of her TIHWD performance, as that is the best song to come out of the PRISM era and you can appreciate the production and visuals of the era so much more when they are recorded like this. @KatyCat1013 maybe you are aware of one? ViviLittleM 3
This woman still can't sing when it's not acoustic and she has a $200M tour nowI guess the decor and effects saved her. I don't understand the GP, really

GoldenNovember 462
Props to them for not using autotune to enhance her off key singing. Not meant in a snarky way. She's not a good singer, but at least she doesn't try to hide it. Usually with these DVDs, the singers vocals are heavily edited. I've seen it so many times, sometimes they even dub the whole thing with a studio produced live vocal track. So, way to go Katy It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead.
