How to record live streams! (to snag performances)

Earlier in the week, @ChicaSkas, @Driezewies, @yASSsss and a few others were wondering about how to save a live stream of the Columbus Day Parade on New York's Channel 7's webpage. A few in the thread were hoping to snag the video file being streamed, but as the software was proprietary, it was splitting the file into little files and really limiting the accessibility of the file. So, to limit the amount of source hopping/searching, just directly record the audio and video coming into your browser, with a free and open source solution that I have tested out myself. (sadly, the Columbus Day stream was on while I was in class, so I couldn't snag it) So, this post is here to hopefully allow others to be there when I, and others, can not.

This software pack is free, open-source, and the best option when it comes to recording live streams in today's busy/encoded world. It doesn't come with extra/annoying side-ware, and it doesn't ask you to install anything but the program/drivers themselves. It's pretty straight-forward, but for those that aren't as tech savvy, there are many videos on Youtube explaining it's setup, but it is pretty much setup out of the box. The only real setup is to add the window/area that you want to record, and unchecking the box for the cursor. Audio and video is usually already configured, so if you're in a hurry, don't worry!

Does is record the audio source or the boxes by your mic?

It records the audio from your sound card, no need for a mic! :)
