DiscoHeaven23 35,007
Below is a list of the top 10 debut pure album sales by female artists this year. The list uses Billboard's calendar year, end of November '14 to now. Therefore, The Pinkprint makes the cut and will see all of its album sales included in this years year end chart. Its pretty pathetic that no artist had a first weeks sales number over 200,000. This poor industry. 195,000 - Title - Meghan Trainor194,000 - The Pinkprint - Nicki Minaj116,000 - Rebel Heart - Madonna109,000 - Unbreakable - Janet Jackson105,000 - Honeymoon - Lana Del Rey97,000 - Badlands - Halsey85,000 - Revival - Selena Gomez83,000 - Piece by Piece - Kelly Clarkson65,000 - Unbreakable Smile - Tori Kelly58,500 - Love Somebody - Reba

StrawberryBlond 14,778
Sad that this is just the US sales. With them, most of the big name females debuted over 200k as a matter of course, 300k or more for the major leagues. These sales aren't much better than the UK debut sales and over here, it's always been an achievement to debut with 100k or more. Back in 2011 and 2012, these figures would have been considered flopping, even for us. The tragic thing now is that it tends to be the new females who are having the best opening weeks - the older ones have lost the fan loyalty. Getting a hit album regardless of who you are really is a herculean task right now. But who can blame the public? Albums have been terrible lately. The industry can't expect us to buy if the quality isn't there, yet they continue to blame it on illegal downloading and streaming and everything else that skirts around the issue. Nick1495 991
I'm thinking we may be seeing a shift in music taste/trends. Rap/Hip Hop music seems to doing just fine in sales. They're selling well above 300k, while most Pop acts (besides Taylor Swift) aren't selling much. If Gaga and Katy manage to sell more than 250k next album, I would see it as a great achievement. Great insight, because if you look at the male version of this list, they are a handful above 200,000 and out of the 6 albums that sold over 200,000, 4 of them are hip-hop/rap, 1 r&b/pop, and 1 country.495,000 - If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late - Drake326,000 - Beauty Behind the Madness - The Weeknd324,000 - To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar320,000 - Kill The Lights - Luke Bryan276,000 - Compton - Dr. Dre215,000 - Dreams Worth More Than Money - Meek Mill176,000 - Stages - Josh Groban139,000 - Dark Sky Paradise - Big Sean137,000 - First Kiss - Kid Rock126,000 - DS2 - Future
