Is Born This Way's Metacritic Score Tragic?

I mean, a 71? :wtf: It should definitely be higher imo.

For one, she wrote and co-produced every single song on the album. I mean, how many mainstream artists can say they've done that these days? Secondly, each song has a powerful and unique message. I'll admit that there are some less than stellar songs on the album, but majority of the songs are thought provoking and enjoyable.

Thirdly, its so diverse and yet cohesive. Gaga addresses s-xuality, love, death, religion, feminisim, immigration and more. Despite the wildly diverse span of topics, it still sounds consistent. Lastly, it features some of her best vocal work to date. Her vocal genre spans from pop, opera, and to even  metal. Why is her score so low? I feel that it should at least be a 75.. Some albums that don't contain nearly as much as I have pointed out have scored higher.

I agree. Born This Way is sonically a masterpiece. Even the instrumentals can stand by themselves without any vocals.

Blame the reviewer who gave it a 0 to make an artistic statement or something :trollga:

Pop music isn't taken seriously by critics, I advise you to get over it

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

It's an album that transcends scoring systems imo.

Not because it's perfect (which it is), but because it's so hilariously over-the-top that you look dumb trying to objectively critique it.

while worse albums get so much higher :miley:

Exactly. Like 1989 is a decent album and she does write all of her music, but I just can't comprehend a world where 1989 gets a 76 and BTW a 71...

I'm not losing any sleep over it lol. I just had a thought and wanted to see what others had to say. The first half of your statement was enough.

Yes, I think it deserved a lot more. But sadly many reviewers are bias against pop albums in general. That unfair 0 review probably had a lot to do with it as well.

However I entirely disagree with the notion that the lead artist writing/producing anything on an album should contribute to the critical reception of it.

Mister Gaga

Because Gaga is polarizing (in her words, she put the world uncomfortable), and she touches controversial themes in her music and life in general (adictions, rape, fame, LGBT, religion), which, sometimes, turned people away from her.

Taylor plays safe, she would never talk about those things. See what her music is about...
