Why is everyone pissed that AHS isn't "scary"?

It doesnt need to be scary per say but i would like to worry for the characters which i did not. I feel like theres an emotional element to the characters that make them seem like real people. In season 1 and 2 the characters seemed much more real.

All of the people that were in trouble in last night episodes were very minor characters with not a lot of depth so i really didnt care what happened to them. I really would like the 'fear' and suspense to come from a place of concern for the characters.

I have never found the show to actually be scary, disturbing alright, but not downright scary. I would not know why people are even complaining. This season looks to be suspenseful above all else and that is exciting for me.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

I was deeply disturbed by the first episode tbh. The thing in the mattress, Gaga killing those people, the rape scene, the people staked to the headboard!? I'm never staying in a hotel again. Horror is like my genre. This is looking to be a good season.
