arthurhmangum 4,408
Loving this new Rihanna. She's finally putting art in the front. Stressed, depressed, but well dressed.
StrawberryBlond 14,898
I applaud her for taking a risk with this. It's such a polarising image that could have some downsides, after all. It isn't the sort of album cover her fans are used to, it doesn't look like a typical pop album cover, it doesn't even have her name or album title on it. It looks like a Kanye album cover or some sort of cover of a pretentious, new age act. Which in itself can be enough to turn people away. Even in a world where you can listen to music before you buy it, album covers still play a role in getting people to pay attention, so if they're turned off by it, it can really cost the artist. And the lack of her name and title is the biggest risk of all. It means that in the future, unless it becomes a legendary album, very few outwith its biggest fans will ever remember what this album was called or who released it basing it purely on the cover art. Seriously massive risk.If she contains all her new songs on it, even the ones that didn't take off and even the ones she posted snippets of, I will give her major props. I don't mind if she's been adding to it all this time but I have issues with artists completely overhauling their original concept if the singles weren't successful. I want to be surprised, honestly. Come on, Rihanna, put out a really good album and prove to us that it was worth waiting for. Your new material has been good, please don't bin it. I feel like you fell hugely in quality after Loud and this is your chance to turn it all around.
AbuHassan1992 766
A lot of people here are Gaga fans. It's not like Gaga has had covers with her looking beautiful and perfect. (By the GPs standards) People here who are Gaga fans have been exposed to covers that are different! Now, if you want to apply that to Rihanna stans and what they are used to or expecting, your statement could be accurate. well, most of gagas covers have been of her face, and mostly they've been beautiful. Here, there's not even a face. That's what I'm talking about. People don't like it because of that

That's what I'm talking about. People don't like it because of thatYou think her scary face attached to a motorcycle is beautiful or a statue of her spread eagle with a big ball between her legs is a typical pop star cover? forslayage 676
All for artists growing and I like the cover, but RiRi, PLEASE. Nobody was - or is - here for you as an ARTist. Release more We Found Love's. The end. Why must you make this hard? As if BBHMM makes me think of braille, oil canvases and introspective poems on the human psyche. Get the **** outta here with this faux-convoluted rubbish. BBHMM isn't gonna be on the album most likely. If she is an artist, AKA makes music, she can do whatever the **** she wants. Gaga took a risk with ARTPOP, and you don't see her not liking that album. Leave boo.

I feel like you fell hugely in quality after Loud and this is your chance to turn it all around.I agree with some parts of this but tbh i ask the question are we expecting too much of Rihanna and is it really the album that we want ?I guess you could say GGGB and LOUD were her most iconic due to their creative and thematic agenda but overall Rihanna is more of a singles Artists her albums are always overlooked as a body of work and it took her a red wig to make LOUD as an album a THING i guess. Everyone since Pon De Reply kept expecting smash singles and nothing more this is evidential with her impressive top 10 and number one hits in comparison to her collection of albums that miss the number one mark on Billboard. This trend follows cause believe it or not at least 25% of every Rihanna album are filler tracks and you can't argue much since there is a year turn around between each album. I'm Trying to say that all Rihanna needs to keep thriving is to deliver with her singles from a commercial stand point in order to keep her aura going strong , so her album covers might mean nothing to an extent. I think the issue that sent everyone into a dilemma with her is the 3 singles we got so far are far from the commercial hits that have been appreciated on a world wide basis , people are waiting for her usual bang but it is nowhere to be found and you'd think that with 3 years she could finally create an album that acts as a bang as whole but i'm afraid this album will just be along the lines of experimental pleasure and while that may be pleasing to some such as you it could eventually lead to the downfall of Rihanna as it could upset the public they waited 3 years and have not gotten there annual share of hits from her thus leading to poor commercial performance that is my theory at least based on what i can see so far. One has to remember that we are in an age where artistry is highly criticized. Especially in the case of Rihanna where she has followed a routine for 7 albums , breaking free of it won't be easy if she want the same acclaim she got in the past. display name 4,360
Definitely not what I had pictured after hearing the tracks that had been released. I must say that it does make me wonder what the rest of the album will sound like.
PaperIz 7,346
GIRL BYE ! Because there is nothing artistic about that album cover other than hiring an artist to use his work. Rihanna is NOT an artist. She is a pop star. Period. Go tell Diane Warren, Jeff Koonz, Sylvia Plath, Hell... James Cameron Rihanna is an "artist". I literally cannot with this. sOoooo art isn't artistic? Rihanna hiring an artist to create an artwork based on the music she's created is not an any way art or artistic? I cannot with u lol Human generated art
