Did Madonna tarnish the message of Born This Way?

No because there is still a powerful message there. It's a great song and I don't really hear the similarities. Honestly I think Madonna did it for promo reasons, not as any real hatred toward Gaga. Gaga was huge at the time, people were already making comparisons, and Madonna is the queen of media/controversy. She knows how to work the press well. And what did she wind up with? A smash concert (though to be fair the concert was great on it's own, Madge knows how to entertain). It's just a real shame that Gaga's magnificent era/album was tarnished in the process.

Roar/Brave sound more alike.

To be honest, those instrumentals sound identical to me, which is odd I guess because I love Brave and hate Roar.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

In a way, yes...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

"overshadowed what should have been a big moment for the LGBTQ community"

The problem was, most of non-Gaga-fans members of LGBTQ community didn't like the song and hated the idea of it ever becoming a gay anthem. In 2011, a year before Madonna came up and tried to ruin it.

Madonna wasn't the cause why that song wasn't a big moment in this community, as it was planned by Gaga.
