kimchi 98
It is also the fault of the European Union. I just can't imagine that they don't have people sitting there who SHOULD HAVE FORECASTED that. What are all those people in Brussels doing the whole day? Anybody cared about the European borders and the unity and safety of the union? Unbelievable. Plus, I agree that the German government expected something much less severe. They saw the whole crisis through the pink-red glasses, as we say in Germany (quite sure that's not a thing in English).
Melech 9,900
What were their plans for putting these people in free housing? Where is this available, government owned, ready and safe for occupancy government housing? I'm not the government. Ask them not me. But they could prepared a lot. Whispering 18,865
Israel were able to cope 600,000 MENA refugees in just 4 years which doubled the population. And later even Soviet refugees [:smh:] And now Europe is failing Germany is failing. They have nowhere to put this many people and don't have the services available to get them processed and settled in a timely matter.

You can blame Germany for not closing its borders but it's just crazy how people tend to put the whole refugee crisis on Germany's shoulders.
Whispering 18,865
The world is failing, not Germany. That it alone came to that refugee crisis. At least Germany has some morality. Germany is failing the refugees they said they could handle. Which is it? Are they saviors or foolish? They said they could take in a million refugees, so that's what they are getting. Many areas of the world take in immigrants and refugees every year and have been doing so for decades. The US has taken in over a million legal immigrants and two million ones every year that don't enter "legally" for the last ten years. That's three million immigrants that come to the US every year...and that doesn't count the millions of children born here as citizens. Canada is another country that has taken in a large amount of immigrants for years, although they don't take in twice as many illegal immigrants every year like the U.S.

I think we don't need to address all the problems in the US immigration, don't we? US is a huge country compared to Germany and so is Canada, so that all that comparisons doesn't make even sense. Did she not know that it would take housing and resources to accomadate that many people coming without jobs or money? The situation in Germany is created by Merkel and the government. I understand why Europe is fragmented and I agree that it doesn't make sense. Counties are very different from states in a country. In a country, states experience the same wars, law changes, leaders, national tragedies, economic trends together...so a single governing body and general set of laws will work. Europe has too many countries with their own unique history to join together and let one government dictate what all the countries need to do. Yes, I am...since you said that other countries don't take in immigrants like Germany is doing. The US has been taking in one per cent of their population for decades now. It takes a great deal of money and services to take care of that many people. Percentage wise, these comparisons absolutely make sense.

I always though it would work out quite well but then I realized that the EU never faced any severe challenges up to the last couple of years. Maybe the financial crisis but even back then nobody really took care of.I love the borderless system and that all European countries are so close but I agree with you. The EU needs some major reforms and changes.

Qualle1 1,385
What do you expect when tons of people are at one place? It doesn't matter if they wer refugees or not. I'm pretty sure there would be fightings between Germans as well when so many where at one place I expect from every refugee a civilised behaviour towards every other refugee or German citizen - especially, if these people have a different background, f. e. ethnicity, religion or s-xuality - inside and outside of the camps. Moreover I await a respectful behaviour towards all of the volunteers and full-time personnel working for the refugees inside of the camps, especially towards social workers, police officers, paramedics and emergency physicians. There is absolutely no excuse for any riot, punchfest, rape, burglary, robbery, assault or insult. All of these criminal refugees have to be brought to justice. Zero tolerance!
