Variety kind of trashed the season though

I'm not counting on the season to get unanimous acclaim. Even at its best, AHS is not the kind of show to endear itself to everyone.

It's very much the screen equivalent of Warhol. Shocking for the sake of it, but also smart and stylish in its own way. It has a very stubbornly niche appeal, which is why I love it :)

it's also impossible to totally judge AHS based on a single episode.  It often starts slow, or shifts direction and focus through the season.

Presence abounds for the main course of Gaga, who speaks little but conveys a star’s aura and energy as she is slowly revealed then dominates the frames of the premiere. Murphy and Co. understand the scare buttons that most people have and how to manipulate, as we begin with an opening sequence that reminds us of a higher power (neon commandments interlaced with title cards) with a music score that pulls our thoughts to the promise of malfeasance and danger.

Good review for Gaga!

"....features an unforgettable performance by Lady Gaga - at turns stunning and creepy, beautiful and grotesque - as a vampire countess who rules over an assortment of monstrous atrocities at a gorgeous art deco hotel in Los Angeles called the Hotel Cortez"

"who speaks little" :ohno:

Hopefully it's only in first episode.

Ryan and Brad both have discussed how Gaga's performance inspired them to write even better dialogue.

And would she really be asked back for another season if she couldn't deliver a line convincingly?
