freebit 6,240
The LA Times reviewed and recapped the first episode. They seemed iffy about the writing, but they were here for the orgy scene:Speaking of feeling something, let's cut to the best part, Lady Gaga’s entrance. As far as entrances go in “American Horror Story” (and there have been some) this may actually be a favorite. It’s basically show creator's Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s spin on “The Hunger’s” 1983 opening titles featuring vampires David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. The two troll a goth club dancing to Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” in search of a meal. It is quite possibly one of the very best vampire moments in all of horror-dom, and if you haven't seen it please stop doing whatever it is you're doing right now and get on that. The FX version wasn’t crazy inspired, but if you enjoy immortals that like to get dressed up for kinky romps before devouring their prey, well then yes, this hits all the vamp sweet spots. The entire scene is set to “Tear You Apart” by She Wants Revenge. Back at the hotel the impossibly good looking couple of Matt Bomer and Lady Gaga get ready for a night out. Dressed in ensembles only the criminally attractive can pull off, the two saunter off to Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where apparently their super power is never having to wait in lines to watch movies next to drunk millennials. While “Nosferatu” plays in the background, Gaga and Bomer seduce a handsome pair nearby, just by looking them. It’s delightful, and pairs up pretty spectacularly with "Nosferatu." Naturally, the next step is to take the new couple home to their satin, circular bed (is there any other kind) and engage in free loving vampire style s-x before cutting the throats of their victims and feasting on their blood. Bonus part, no fangs. They use their accessories for murder. This will be the last of the coherent plot lines for the rest of the first episode..................One thing I don't get is all these reviewers criticisms about not "seeing a story" or whatever. Everything was pretty clear to me.

monketsharona 81,401
Like in most of AHS seasons the first episode leaves you in a complete mess with a huge amount of questions be answered. Most storylines get a developpment later in the next episodes.I feel like some critics literally haven't seen ONE episode of AHS in their life. Like the ones who criticize s-xuality or violence in Hotel. I mean AHS has never been soft (except softer season Coven ?). If you're too sensitive or if you don't want to be shocked or disturbed, just watch another show. AHS is definitely not a show made for you !
bionic 50,107
episode 1 or the entire season?right now, both
monketsharona 81,401
Honestly I really feel you shouldn't give too much credit to reviews and bad opinions. It's not only about Lady Gaga. She just joined a show that is controversial. And she IS controversial too So don't even expect a huge round of applause or general great reviews... AHS always had mixed reviews. Some people love a season others hate it... It will probably the same for Hotel. And with season 6, and the next one... Even fans can't agree on which seasons are the best or the worst. Even actors have different feeling about each season...
BornAsUnic0rn 2,098
About the ''low'' score:Well, the first two episodes have always seemed to be in this formula:Episode One: Introducing the Characters and giving a hint of the story line and the connections.Episode Two: Making the storyline CLEARSo the lack of storyline is normal for AHS (but it was very obvious in Hotel, because it was more clear in Coven and Freakshow) so I can see why critics pick that as a flaw. But for Desperate Housewives, Devious Maids, Teen Wolf (duh, pretty gay examples) it's easier to show the storyline in Episode One of the reviewed season because:1) A hint at the storyline is given away on the last episode of the previous season2) The characters stay mainly the same
ChicaSkas 23,130
Critics Consensus: Favoring garish style over effective storytelling, the fifth American Horror Story strands a talented cast at Ryan Murphy's Hotel. That does kind of nail it. Do YOU own the 4' by 6' Perfect Illusion promo Poster? Will pay you for it. Pic: http://i.imgur.com/UWuzumk
flopheart 1,865
I loved the episode and i don't get the bad reviews, it was awesome! for all the people who complains about gore, please, it's AMERICAN HORROR STORY, glad it's not as Freakshow that looked more like American Drama Soap Story. I think there will be a cool plot, it will be all around the cop (wes bentley), the missing son and the serial killer.
