The ones who have shaded Gaga SEVERAL times with her relationship with monsters because they can't understand that kind of connection?

Then Rihanna (she insulted and hit them many times) and Madonna who called them *******s

Everyone says Rihanna and Justin but surely if they're publicly giving their IDGAF attitude to their fans, that's not being in-genuine? Seems like that's a genuine display of behaviour, even if it is distasteful. Wouldn't pretending you love your fans 24/7 but actually being really annoyed by them be not genuine? In which case none of us have any way of knowing.

Stop being negative to artists and tearing them to shreds etc etc

The problem is when you are ALWAYS annoyed by your fans only to ask them to buy/stream/view your **** when you release a new song/album/video or use them to brag about irrelevant (and sometimes inexistent lol) records. So no, I don't buy the "they are always rude to the fans so they're genuine" logic.

Not asking you to buy it lol

And I never said it was a good thing. But surely pretending to love your fans and in turn asking them to buy your material is more of a facade then just selling it but not really giving a ****? There's no fakery in that attitude. Not saying it's a good or desirable quality, but at least they aren't pretending like I imagine a lot of pop stars do.

Rihanna - She's always the first name I think of. The bad treatment of her fans is endless. Turning up 1 or 2 hours late for gigs, refusing many opportunities to sign autographs (most recently even hitting a phone away), slapping a fan's hand with her mic during a gig (as if security wasn't going to step in) doing very little promotion outside the US, dismissing all her fan concern about getting back with Chris to the point where she even did a duet with him on her album about their relationship being nobody's business and doing a remix with him on a s-x jam, keeping schtum about the whole R8 mess and refusing to talk about it despite her fans being kept waiting for nearly 3 years and the crowning glory: making fun of a fan on Twitter who attempted to recreate an outfit Rihanna wore. Rihanna thought the design was terrible, compared it to the Wu-Tang logo and so on despite this being the girl's prom night. That's what ultimately sealed the deal for me. Rihanna doesn't give a stuff about her fans and even mocks them when they try to create a homage to them. Such an "artist" does not deserve success.

Taylor Swift - Yes, she does a lot of nice things for her fans but it never comes across as real to me. It all seems to be about what being nice to them will do for her. Apparently, her manager had once said to her "if you want to sell 500k albums, you have to meet 500k people." It all seem to be a ploy to guarantee that these fans keep buying her work, nothing more. Considering that she does very little promotion and tour dates outside the US, I think she keeps most of her fan courtesy strictly limited to one area. And judging by all those boxes of fanmail found in her trash, I highly doubt she cherishes any fanmail for more than a few seconds, if she even goes through it at all. Unlike most of the others, it feels like Taylor is only nice to fans for her own ends - she has always come off as a calculated businesswoman.

Justin Bieber - That video showing him ignoring his fans and telling them off at Toronto Airport was really bad and I can't imagine how it must feel to have your fave brush you off so rudely like that when they're sitting there, doing nothing, directly in front of you. Yes, he did pose for pictures eventually but he was so rude prior that frankly, I wouldn't be interested by that point. I'd prefer to be ignored completely than be lectured just for being an adoring fan. As that one girl said "I don't think anyone would be offended if you just didn't answer." His meet and greets are also some of the quickest blink and you miss it moments. There was footage of them at his Argentina gig and each person got to stand beside him for mere seconds while a photo was taken (while he wouldn't say a word to them and didn't even crack a smile), and were then whisked away by security, physically whisked away. Some fans were in tears over the cold, clinical nature of the whole thing. Justin to me as always epitomised the idea of the young star who's in it for the money and doesn't care about any of his fans, just how much they'll spend on him.

1D - They seem like nice boys for the most part but really, they don't like this crazy fan business. They never expected to get this big and they find the concept of being swarmed by fans so daunting and just want to escape from it all. Unlike the others, it's not that they don't care about their fans, necessarily, they just find the whole experience of being mobbed by screaming girls to be stifling and scary and just want to be some place where they'll be treated normally. I'm sure if they had one or two composed fans approaching them every so often, they'd be fine, but most of their fanbase are younger than them, female and screaming and it's all understandably too much. They just put up with it while keeping their minds on their contracts and money the whole time. You can tell they can't wait to go solo.

It does seem more female artists are the later type and value fan relationships (not just Gaga or in imitation of her). Back when male rockers dominated,, in seemed they mostly were about about art or money or having fun and acted like they were too cool to kiss up to fans.

Indeed, they're still like that. Which is why I prefer just listening to rock music as opposed to going to see it live. It's common for there to be long delays (apparently Guns n Roses kept fans waiting for 3 hours with no apology) and I can't be bothered with that kind of thinking. There's a lot of big egos in rock and a lot of them subscribe to the belief of "We make the music we want to make, not what our fans want, we'll have the setlist we want and we don't do meet and greets." Yet their fans still stay loyal. If the music's good, I get that, but why go to their shows if they're going to be such jerks?

Honestly, I know this sounds weird, but I'd prefer that fakeness. After all, it's not like you can love all your fans. There will be overly excitable ones, rude ones, stalkers. But you've got to keep up appearances nevertheless. It's called courtesy. Your life will be so much easier if you're nice, or at least, civil, to everyone. Ignoring or being flat out rude to your fans gets you nowhere. Being courteous doesn't make you fake, it just makes you a good person. It's no different to smiling and saying thank you when you get a present, even if it's something you already have or something you don't like. It's not fakeness, it's about respecting the other person's time, money, effort and most importantly, feelings.

It is fake though. Behaving in a way that's contrary to how you actually feel is the very definition of fake/in-genuine. Once again, not saying it's nice to act like that to fans, but it certainly doesn't mean they're fake or not genuine.

Which is also why I disagree with you naming 1D. They show appreciation for their fans but just because they don't rim them 24/7 like Gaga does it doesn't mean they're fake and not genuine. I'd say it's perfectly reasonable to be freaked out by getting swarmed and stalked like they do.

Whoa, RiRi did this? That's low.

The one and only Taylor Swift! :teehee: (Although she's easily recyclable and replaceable, oops :teehee:

Rihanna, 1D, Justin and Ariana as well.

AND I CAN'T AT PEOPLE WHO VOTED KATY IN THE POLL! :toofunny: IF THEY KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT KATY, HOW SHE CONNECTS WITH US KATYCATS, TALKS WITH US ON TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM (although it is rare, but she still reads our tweets and posts, which shows that she cares), PUTS A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT FOR US, DEDICATES HER SONGS AND PERFORMANCES TO US, NEVER IGNORES US, SEES US AS HER FAMILY, AND NEVER DISRESPECTS US, MAYBE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE VOTED HER ON THAT POLL.

I only regard it as fakeness when there's a big element of nastiness thrown in. Like telling someone they have a great outfit and then laughing at it as soon as their back is turned. Simply saying nothing but laughing at it when their back is turned is slightly better as you kept your feelings to yourself and what they didn't know won't hurt them and so on. That's more in genuine as opposed to fake. With fakeness, I think of real nastiness.

I made a point of saying that 1D were a very different case. The question asked for artists who aren't genuine and I'd class them more as ingenuine than fake. I do think it is perfectly reasonable for them to be freaked out, which is why I said that their reactions put them in a different category. I really doubt they'll mourn for any fans they lose when they split up, not because they don't care, but because they could never take the fans crazy natures. Basically, they didn't sign up for this level of hysteria when they entered the game, so they're a bit different to most artists (people like Gaga signed up for this wanting lots of hardcore fan attention). If the question was "which artists are rude to their fans?" or suchlike, I wouldn't have listed them.

I'm at least pleased to see that the girl has some pride by saying that Rihanna doesn't love her fans like she claims. I hope she's no longer a fan. Celebrities need to realise that if they don't treat their fans right, their stock will fall and obscurity won't be far away. And as you can see, people like me, who aren't even fans, will remember these events and forever judge through them. Rihanna reminds me of the girls at school who used to bully me, that's why I could never truly warm to her as a person. And she just proved that fame has totally changed her and she's no better than a schoolyard bully.

I would hope the girl would stop calling herself a fan after that. That's so low to do that to a fan publicly on their prom night.

Because, like you said, expressing feelings that aren't real isn't genuine. Their reasons for not caring are different to other celebrities who don't care, though. They don't care not because they think they're too good for their fans, but because they simply didn't expect such a high intensity of fan devotion, so they would rather avoid it.

You know what bugs me the most?

Even above the most ingenuine pop star?

How they gave their followers names after Gaga created Monsters.    To this day it annoys the **** out of me , because its so disingenous when you see them posting on twitter calling their fans the katy cats, the beliebers, the rhi rhi navy or what the **** ever.

Like their manager went up to them and said hey heres a way to appear somewhat like you give a ****.
