Oregon shooter targeted Christians

The gunman who opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College targeted Christians specifically, according to the father of a wounded student.

Before going into spinal surgery, Anastasia Boylan told her father and brother the gunman entered her classroom firing. The professor in the classroom was shot point blank. Others were hit, she told her family.

Everyone in the classroom dropped to the ground.

The gunman, while reloading his handgun, ordered the students to stand up if they were Christians, Boylan told her family.

"And they would stand up and he said, 'Good, because you're a Christian, you're going to see God in just about one second,'" Boylan's father, Stacy, told CNN, relaying her account.

"And then he shot and killed them."

This sounds like that other famous shooting story that was widely believed but then turned out to be a hoax. Right now there's a lot of conflicting that I think a lot of people would use to fit how they want to frame this narrative. Could very well be true, but right now I'm hesitant.

I hate how everyone (media) thought the shooter was muslim. He was against organised religion all together. Its also said that we was a "menimist" because all the victims (that have been identified) have been women I think (I may be completely misinformed )

He may have targeted them but I doubt his motive was to kill Christians because of their beliefs. What he said sounds more like a pun a killer would say in a movie, something that gave him more power than a gun. This kind of people are out of their minds.

I didn't see a single news source report that they thought it was a Muslim shooter (I don't watch FOX news, btw) and I watched several hours if coverage throughout the day. CNN was speculating that it could be a disgruntled employee of the college or an jilted lover of someone who went there or worked there...but that was only one person for a few minutes.

That wouldn't surprise me...they are always the worst! Respectable news sources are careful about jumping to these types of conclusions, though.

Rand McGowan stayed still amid the gunfire.

The 18-year-old was in the writing class where a killer opened fire Thursday, killing nine at Umpqua Community College in Oregon's deadliest mass shooting.

McGowan told family members that the gunman didn't specifically target Christians but asked them about faith. The shooter, apparently planning to die during the massacre, told students: "I'll see you soon" or "I'll meet you soon."

McGowan's mother, Stephanie Salas, shared her son's account Friday. The teenager, one of triplet boys, was shot in the right hand and released from Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.

McGowan heard gunshots before he knew what was happening, his mother said.

The 26-year-old gunman, Christopher Sean Harper-Mercer, told everyone to move toward the center of the room.

"The shooter would call a person: 'You, stand up,'" Salas said, recalling what her son told her. "And then he would ask them if they were a Christian, knew God, or had religion. And it wasn't like it was stated on TV. It wasn't about that he was just trying to pinpoint Christians, no."

The shooter would tell them it wouldn't hurt.

"And then he would shoot them," she said.
