Otherwise he wouldn't be named "The King of Pop"

The ignorance is you not realizing that she is the ultimate female popstar

 

And anyway, when I talk to my dad, someone who was alive and fully aware in the 80's, about stuff like this, he always talks about how MJ started to get weird with his behavior after Thriller. Like most normal people, he doesn't know/wasn't aware about sales because he is not a chart freak like most of the members of this forum. And those sales/records don't completely make an artist defining. 

All in all, Madonna is just as worthy as being called the icon of the 80's over MJ because most people from that remember his negative things and how he never returned to his peak

lol, what? Kurt and Nirvana helped define the alternative rock genre and evolved rock out of the 80s hair metal era. The cultural impact was huge and undeniable - it even influenced the fashion of the decade. Kurt/Nirvana are by far more synonymous with the 90s than Madonna. 

Madonna made more of an impact in the 80s than she did in the 90s.  Kurt Cobain and Nirvana were responsible for the grunge/alternative rock music scene that exploded in 1991 as a result of their sophomore album Nevermind. 

Nirvana made cardigan sweaters, light blue jeans, and flannels a fashion craze that lasted well into 1997!  Now, those fashions weren't as strong in 1997 as they were through 1995 but people were still making references to grunge fashion in the late 90s.

Alternative/grunge became mainstream thanks to Nirvana.

i lived the 90's & Kurt was a ****ing legend   me & all of my friends, 90's ppl still love & play Nirvana's song, he's a ****ing legend, pop fans, rock fans, metal fans, everybody knows him, not everything is about Divas & gays he changed how the teens dressed, their attitude, everything, such an iconic guy & band tbh

 

Also thx to Nirvana we have the Foo FIghters, Courtney Love & Hole, such a flawless bands
