-Jesse McCartney releases his debut album 'Beautiful Soul’ at the age of 16. The album sells over 1 million copies and spawns the hit “Beautiful Soul”, which peaks at #16.

-Ciara releases the iconic album ‘Goodies’ featuring three top 3 singles “Goodies” (#1), “1, 2 Step” (#2) and “Oh” (#2). The album has sold 2.75 million copies in the US.

-Hilary Duff releases her second non-holiday album ‘Hilary Duff’. The album peaked at #2 and has sold 1.8 million copies in the US. The song features “Fly”, which failed to peak on the Hot 100 but hit #29 on Mainstream Top 40 radio.

-Sting releases his sixth studio album ‘Brand New Day’. The album has sold 3.5 million copies in the US and features the #17 song “Desert Rose”, his first top 20 in six years.

-Creed release their highly successful second album ‘Human Clay’. The album sells 11.7 million copies in the US, making it the 40th top selling album of all time in the US. The album spawns two top 10 hits “Higher” (#7) and “With Arms Wide Open” (#1).

-Miles Davis, the famous jazz trumpeter, dies of pneumonia at the age of 65.

-Linda Ronstadt, who had been considered the lead female rock vocalist since the mid-70’s, releases a jazz album 'What's New'. Her team was very reluctant to make the album, but Linda was determined to. The album ended up selling over 3 million copies and many have noted this album for having had a huge affect on pop culture. Linda’s next two albums were jazz, as well, followed by a Mariachi album. It’s been hinted at that she has inspired some female mainstream acts to make jazz albums in the years since.

Hilary Duff is probably the single greatest artist in the history of humankind. Why hasn't this day been made into an international holiday for all creatures of Earth? Bless our divine mother goddess DUFF. May she spit the seeds of love and power into our gaping mounts.
