This generation of "fans" is a plague - they show no respect and no consideration towards the person they allegedly "stan" for. These are just a bunch of vampires thirsty for 30 seconds of celebrity, because they feel like getting a selfie with a star will make them more popular, as if getting close to a famous person could make them a little famous themselves. They are not fans of Selena Gomez or anyone else, they're fans of themselves. And I've witnessed this kind of behavior myself the various times I got to approach Gaga in real life. The disrespect is astounding. I think it's a really depressing observation regarding the youth that grew up with social media.

Why are you saying this is something related to how celebrities are treated only nowadays, look at the majority of celebrities since the 60s (especially rock bands) they're legit stalked, trampled and ambushed by their fans. Even in the 60s The Beatles were, once Nirvana got so overwhelmed in the 90s that Kurt Cobain assaulted a fan with a guitar telling him to **** off when they tried to ambush the stage at a small performance and they ended up in a fight so the security had to separate them. Believe me this type of pandemonium has existed for DECADES and isn't recent just because of gay fandom culture.

There's a major difference between today and fan-culture 50 years ago. Back then, people recognized talent, they were real hardcore fans who considered their idols like Gods. There was madness, sure - but there also was respect.

Nowadays, it doesn't matter what people are famous for - people don't care about the artist, they care about themselves. About their popularity. About having as many selfies as possible with famous people. With reality TV and social media, people have learnt that you can basically become famous for no real talent, in a second, and it radically shaped the way people act towards celebrities. It's not about appreciating one's talent - it's about approaching a celebrity, so that I can become some sort of celebrity myself. Let me have a piece of what you have.

Horrible. Celebs are people too and i think a lot of people forget that and feel like they are entitled to do what they want to them because they buy their music or whatever. I cant believe people put someones health at risk just to get a picture or autograph.

Obviously not as extreme as this but reminds me of when people wait to see a celeb outside their hotel for days and then when they dont come out and greet the fans, start moaning about it. It not the celebrities fault you wasted your time on something that isnt guaranteed.

For all the people saying that things could have been worse, of course. But it's not just about what happened at the train station. It's also about the glasses being stolen. It's about the way we treat celebrities in this day and age. I'm not saying this was the worst example of fan hysteria, I'm saying that this happened today, and this isn't cool, and this is a good example of what's wrong in today's "stan" culture.

Totally reminds me of back when the paparazzi were horrible to Britney during her breakdown.

This particular instance wasn't overwhelming by the number of paparazzi but more so disturbing that Britney was just trying to take her dog on a walk after a fight she had with her manager/sleezy bf at the time Sam Lufti. She was clearly very upset and then ran right into the paparazzi outside her home and she didn't know what to do so she just sat down on the side of her driveway crying and the papz are walking onto her property and taking pictures and videos of her crying and asking if she wants "to talk about it?', 'awe why are you crying Britney?'" and they don't care whatsoever, they are just provoking her for a reaction.

Britney just looked so broken and sad and they just sat back and watched and were probably thinking about how much money they were going to make from these pictures of the princess of pop having another meltdown in front of her home.

I remember seeing this video years ago and it just made me finally realize how sad it must be for celebrities to not even be able to have vulnerable moments because they fear of it being caught by the media.

Yeah, the paparazzi are a whole other problem..... They are literally vultures. The problem is: their job is incredibly well-paid, and as long as it remains that way, they'll keep on being incredibly agressive.

Also, they absolutely hate fans and would do anything to keep them away in order to make better pictures. I actually recognize one of them from the Selena video that nearly attacked me a few months back when I was trying to catch Gaga at the Balenciaga fashion show: I was standing in front of him, that annoyed him and he violently pulled me from my hood to get me out of the way, I nearly fell over a motorcycle.

They don't even care to say hello to her. They just want a picture. And how sad if your picture with someone is them looking miserable and not even looking at your camera.
