Aussie Senator: "Taylor Swift is relevant!"

Featured Posts

The entire state of Australian politics has been turned on its head over the past few days, and during a period of quiet reflection over the state of his nation's government, New South Wales Senator Sam Dastyari decided to read out a sombre rendition of Taylor Swift's 'Blank Space' to his peers.

"The problem with all these references is that they're kind of from the seventies, eighties, and early nineties," Dastyari told the Senate. "I just do not think they are really relevant to the debate we are having as a nation now."

"But I will tell you who is relevant: Taylor Swift," he added. "And in Taylor Swift's poetic, beautiful, and - I think - touching song, 'Blank Space', which really is a modern soliloquy on the Liberal Party, she says-"

At this point, Dastyari was interrupted by jeers from his fellow senators, prompting him to say "I'm quoting a poet here. I notice that other senators are laughing. I just do not think they are treating this with the respect that it deserves.

"Magic. Madness. Heaven. Sin. Saw you there and I thought oh my God, look at that face. You look like my next mistake. New money, suit and tie. I can read you like a magazine. Ain't it funny, rumours fly. And I know you heard about me.

"So it's gonna be forever, or it's gonna go down in flames. You can never tell me when it's over, if the high was worth the pain."

So, so, so extremely overrated. Why is she still even a thing?

She's overrated, yes. With her album 1989. I bet you didn't even know her releases prior to that album. She's been a thing for like 9 years now.

The more you complain about her, the more attention she gets. If you want her to die on this forum, well, you know.

LOLOLOL, this is beautiful XD
Now she HAS to sing Bad Blood in black latex to the senators who laughed at her (and one of her white old farts liberal peers should do the Kendrick part. - cuz nothing is funnier than a cracker trying to rap)

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

How is she overrated?

She sells, but she also writes her own songs, plays an instrument and doesn't rely on s-x, unlike some others artists.

yeah I'll give her that. She's talented, end of story and I do enjoy some of her music, actually a good bit of it. She is overrated to the public eye though. She is so in your face with everything she does. It's taylor this, taylor that. It's literally becoming "taylor nation" in America (not joking lol) it's like the same for Beyonce and Drake. I like both of them, I know they're talented, and enjoy their music BUT the public and the media overexpose them so much to the point where it makes it hard to enjoy them. That's why I think Taylor is overrated,  because there's not a second you're not hearing about her. I know we've gotten into little arguments and stuff about Taylor in the past but just know that when I say something about her I do think she's talented and like her, I just think her and everything she does is way too overexposed.

It's just the way the system of popular media is constructed at the moment.

Somebody has to be on top.

I think it's silly to let that affect your enjoyment of the artist that is going through the media exposure. In fact, we should be happy that there are talented women like Taylor and Gaga who got to be in the spotlight.
