StrawberryBlond 13,996
Really great article and it's good to see Lana get the recognition she deserves. I like that line about the beautiful, silent woman being percieved as nothing more than an object and no one thinks anymore of her. Like how some have said that Lana is a product of her record label and didn't invent her character or anything like that. I doubt they'd say that about a man. So many people write her off as pretentious but I think they're just intimidated by her intelligence and don't want to be challenged. I think the critique about her view of feminism is an interesting new angle on things and it's true, women get asked this question for no other reason than they're women. And the interviewer doesn't even care if they truly know what feminism is either, just looking for blind support. But in all fairness, male celebrities aren't asked about the kind of stuff she wanted to talk about either. I wish female artists would get asked more stuff about their music instead of inane questions you'd ask anyone. I've seen interviews where nothing was even asked about the album until the final question and the rest was all about their love lives. I'd be totally like Gaga and give sarcastic answers just to annoy everyone if they were going to keep insulting my intelligence like that. Cackling at the fact that their fave is about to drop an album but the stans are so insecure they still want to turn this into a thing. So extra Really? Is that the way you look at it? Maybe they're annoyed that their fave is getting their work ripped off and are rightfully annoyed. I'm sure Taylor fans would verbally massacre anyone who they perceieved to rip off one of her songs. The only reason it isn't being widely talked about is because Without You is a bonus track. If it was a massive single, it would be another matter. Maybe that's why Taylor did it. I would agree if this was 2012. However, Lana has been repeating herself over and over again with her message, sound and visuality ever since then. It's very hard to take an artist seriously when they constantly try to recreate the moment they had when they peaked. And you don't think Taylor's done the same? Her first three albums all sounded pretty much alike. And her last two albums have got more pop with 1989 capitalising on the pop success of Red. Taylor's been trying to recreate her peaks since day one. I think she's one of the most limited artists out there. Lana's style may be limited too but at least she's the best one at doing this style and pioneered it in the modern age. Taylor's style was never new and so many others have done it better and currently are doing it better. They're trying to get her a few extra thousand copies sold by starting a stan war Do you ever think this attitude is what annoys the non-fans and why we want to see her fail? Swift fans have got way too comfortable with her being a success, so much so that they will make fun of other fanbases just for liking a less successful act, as if that's worthy of derision or something. Gaga fans got too cocky after TFM and look where that got us. Pride cometh before a fall, Swifties.
Jed 7,716
No, I'm not defending the unfendable lol. Yeah sure, you can talk about it, as do a couple of butt-hurt hispter blogs and the Lana fans on ATRL, but other then them, no one is lol. If this were something big like say Express Yourself/Born This Way okay, I would totally respect your opinion and this debacle lol. But the fact that no one outside those circles care is proof that the "rIP OFF!!!1" is clearly a reach lol (not saying that a few similarities aren't there lol) But whatevs, I'm talking to an apparent Lana stan so there is nothing else to say lol Why are they randomly comparing Taylor to Lana? They don't sing the same type of music, they don't have the same public, they don't have the same "theme" of lyrics, they don't have the same anything When 1989 first came out several reviews actually noted that the biggest pop influences that the album had came from Lorde and Lana. This being a single just reignited the same conversation that was had at the end of last year around Taylors release. I don't think the op is wrong to share the article and discuss what they are talking about. I for one hear and see the similarities.. So maybe we shouldn't bash the op for sharing an article that they didn't even write.

Sister 9,907
The song is very Lana, the video is just boring, if Swift copied Lana with the video, it might at least be interesting to me and not just forgettable, like the song still is, to me. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

People go on about my long posts but I can't exactly explain in full what I have to say in one tiny paragraph.

You're "intelligence" does not scare me Ah, the old "I just can't be bothered writing a long reply" excuse. I replied to your post with my argument in just one paragraph - why can't you return it? That doesn't take that much time. Or are you just too stumped to respond to my valid points? It honestly says a lot about parts of the forum when they immediately equate long to "well thought out and informed." It honestly says a lot about this forum when they immediately equate short to "witty and on point." Maybe one day you'll have more to say than just a line or two and your mind will be bursting with so many well thought out, informed thoughts that one paragraph just won't cut it. What will you do then? Not write it because you consider it too pretentious? You remind me of those people I went to school with who were amazed to see me write more than a one word answer to a question and *shock horror* write 5 lines on an A3 piece of paper. After all those Higher exams I sat at school and all those essays, exams and a dissertation I had to write to get my degree from one of the world's top universities, my need to write down all my thoughts may still linger within me, I'm dreadfully sorry. I have no issue with however long you write, you do as you please. You can write a post that by itself that takes up the entire length of the page, it doesn't take away from the fact that it has no significance on the quality and merit of the argument. About 70% of your material is just baseless conjecture stemming from your own biases, and yet regardless of how little you have to back up anything you say, you carry it around as if you've been given the knowledge of the heavens. You aren't special because of how long you write, it's a camouflage to hide that even though you can write line after line after line you aren't really saying anything. Don't flatter yourself with this ironic "poor me" thing. Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

Don't flatter yourself with this ironic "poor me" thing. Then why are you saying that my long posts are a problem if I can do as I please? How are my posts baseless? I usually quote facts in them wherever possible and research my beliefs at length. You just say that I'm biased because you don't like what I have to say about your fave. If you'd examine my posts over the last few days, you'll see that I've been oddly supportive of Taylor up until now. I've sympathised with her when some arsonists burnt down a boat near her home thinking it was hers, defended her Wildest Dreams video, thought a video she posted of her hearing a fire alarm annoucement was cute and weighed up both sides of the s-xual harrassment case involving her recently. I am not biased towards her - I'll praise her when she does something I like and defend her when she gets picked on unnecessarily. I always back up what I think with facts wherever possible and never write more than is necessary. You only seem to have a problem with my posts when it's something that you dislike. Do you also call out Taylor fans who have a positive bias towards her too? Or is it only negative reception that you perceive as bias? Oh, I'm saying a lot. I wouldn't get so many likes for my long posts if I didn't. You just don't like the things I'm saying. I'm not hiding anything and I'm proud of my ability to express myself through writing. I've frequently had comments like "You put into words what I couldn't say." So, I must be doing something right.

It's that some members think anything longer than a gif must have been written by Shakespeare. Taylor certainly isn't the subject matter I feel like you don't tackle very well. And no, trying to pass off dancing as some big PR conspiracy and believing that she must pay for positive reviews is not "extensive, informed research backed up by facts." I mean you've even said before that topics about her get you irrational. Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

I mean you've even said before that topics about her get you irrational.I'm not saying that anything longer than a gif is worthy of Shakespeare. But I do provide posts that are worthy of taking notice as I try to say things that no one else has thought of. I literally don't know what you mean by "trying to pass off dancing as some big PR conspiracy." I never said that she definitively pays for positive press, just that it's highly possible as it still occurs in the industry and there's very little evidence of critics liking similar work to hers. I provide facts plenty of times. I've got a great memory for old incidents from celebrities that other people forget and I bring them up whenever needed and I once did this big take-down of Beyonce's songwriting abilities by listing all her songwriting controversies and all the covers that she claimed credit to. I'm frequently praised for the research in my posts, actually. Topics about Taylor can get me irritated, but they don't get me irrational.
