(CNN) - A Muslim flight attendant says she was suspended by ExpressJet for refusing to serve alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith.

Stanley, 40, started working for ExpressJet nearly three years ago. About two years ago she converted to Islam. This year she learned her faith prohibits her from not only consuming alcohol but serving it, too, Masri said.

She approached her supervisor on June 1 and was told to work out an arrangement for someone to fulfill passenger requests for alcohol.

"It was at the direction of the airlines that she began coordinating with the other flight attendant on duty so that when a passenger requested alcohol, the other flight attendant would accommodate that request," Masri said. "We know that this arrangement has worked beautifully and without incident and that it hasn't caused any undue burden on the airline. After all, it was the suggestion of the airline."

It seemed to be working out until another flight attendant filed a complaint against Stanley on August 2 claiming she was not fulfilling her duties by refusing to serve alcohol, Masri said. The employee complaint also said Stanley had a book with "foreign writings" and wore a headdress.

On August 25, the airline sent a letter to Stanley informing her that it was revoking its religious accommodation to exclude her from service of alcohol and placing her on administrative leave.

"They placed her on unpaid leave and they advised her that her employment may be terminated after 12 months," Masri said. "We are requesting that her employment be reinstated and the accommodation of her religious beliefs be reinstated as well."

Okay, it's weird because she had an arrangement with other workers that worked fine? I understand that sometimes faith can get in the way of a job, but she made it work with the other workers, too.

And the employee complaint is ridiculous! Just because she had a Qur'an or wore a hijab doesn't mean anything if it didn't interfere with the job.

I cannot wait for people who are gonna use the "if people are defending her, why aren't they defending Kim David!" argument.

3 points in and ready for more

I am all for freedom of religion etc. But I have had it

OFFICIALLY!!!

When you are employed for a job such as this or a marriage licensing clerk your religion does not take place in anything about that job.

She knew what a flight attendant role is- there is service of alcohol involved

If you are so conflicted religiously then why did you take the role?

- Come for me all you want if you disagree, I will ignore the quotes anyways.

She can go get a job somewhere else in my opinion.

One of the duties as a flight attendant is to serve alcohol.

If you can't fulfill your job duties then you aren't fit for the job.

I will say this one last time.  A vegetarian who waiters doesn't deny a customer an order of chicken because of their beliefs.  You should know the job criteria before applying.  Simple as that.

If you read the article, it says she got the job 2 years before she found out she wasn't able to serve alcohol either.

I agree that she could just find another job but if the pay was good and she liked it, she shouldn't have to.

Whilst I think it's great she stuck by her guns and made custom arrangements for the dispensing of alcohol... I do actually side with the company.

If her personal beliefs don't align with her job, get a different job. It's not like she's allergic/sensitive and handling it would have caused her physical discomfort or a disability caused her problems with access to the bar... she just chose to not serve it.

It sucks her arrangements weren't able to continue because they seem pretty understandable but I can imagine it must be get a little annoying having to constantly step in to do someone's job for them because they don't believe in it.

She was fit for the job and able to perform the job duties, therefore she was qualified.

Now that she has decided she can't serve alcohol, she is no longer qualified for the job.
