the vast majority of pop is watered down crap from other genres. It doesn't have to be that way but pop fans seem largely incapable of recognizing the difference between quality and schlock.

Nicole Scherzinger proved to be a fantastic opera singer, Ariana Grande proved herself as a great broadway performer and interpreter, P!nk has godly rock vocals and Kelly had showcased amazing Jazz & folk vocals. Gaga's not the only artist of the new wave to broadcast her diversity as a musician you know. Madonna's impact on culture and the music industry has yet to be matched by any other female artist, she's still the Queen of Pop. 

It's always entertaining seeing you people give Gaga full credit for the C2C era when in reality the audience paid so much to see Tony first and foremost, and it's pretty dull to brag about the Grammy C2C received when it obviously was because of Tony, he's always been the Grammy's favorite artist.

Not denying Madonna's impact on the music industry but to say she's still the "Queen Of Pop" is quite of a statement. And I'm not sure you can really prove that sadly. I mean, if you look at the current stats of her albums/singles sales and tour gross now, she's definitely not a "Queen" of anything. Taylor Swift & Beyoncé can easily be titled as "Queens Of Pop" but aren't really. It says alot about how the term "Queen Of Pop" is really not worth a damn.

 

As for the Cheek To Cheek era comment, I think that the duo of Tony & Gaga is what made the campaign. The whole marketing of the project was based on this authentic and odd collaboration that made literally everyone who was enough interested in it raise an eyebrow at first. To say that the success of the era was 100% because of Tony is a ridiculous statement.

Ok so hip hop is sh*t because Eminem, one of the biggest names of the genre, needs to rely on homophobia and misogyny to put material out?

It's incredibly ignorant to paint a whole genre so negatively based on a couple people that fit in the said genre. We're in the 21st century, if you honestly believe most pop music is trash I can safely assume you simply do not know how to find good pop music. 

Also, what is it with the demonizing of auto-tune? It's a great tool that can modify the human voice to make it sound a certain way and enhance its effect to lead to a determined result.

Maybe you don't see reason to, but you obviously haven't looked deep enough into the genre if Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are being used as the benchmark. Either that or a very narrow definition of pop is being used...
