Koreku 2,387
Rapists exist. Nothing you can do about that.Do you drive without taking precautions, too, just because illegal/unfit drivers are to blame for the accidents that kill you?I agree with this standpoint. Some men in this world are just disgusting savages. We cannot change this entirely, because there will always be disgusting rapists. Yet, there are still lots of rape incidents that happen to women that wear perfectly normal/casual clothes such as jeans, so I'm not sure. You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.
Miker 5,683
Rape isn't right on any level but the rapist may have his own mental issues or he may be high on some substance. Somebody may see this differently if a woman is nearly naked rather than fully clothed. In a court of of law, promiscuity is something that comes up often in s-xual assault cases. Kayla 7,595
I don't disagree with anything you said, but it's another post full of "we should" that has nothing to do with what I'm saying. The question is simple, if you had a daughter, and if she came to you TODAY saying that she's gonna go out and drink a lot and then go home alone in the middle of the night wearing a mini skirt, would you let her do that? The skirt isn't the issue. If she came to me and said that, my response wouldn't be "What?! You could get raped. Put on some pants and then go drinking and walk home alone."When it comes down to it, watching your alcohol intake is important. Using the buddy system is important. Being safe is necessary. But changing your clothes? Pants don't prevent rape.
GloZell Green 11,723
The fact that she only addresses woman's rape, but she thinks that the clothes they wear matter? You're going to see the beast size and butt no matter what you wear. She was very insensitive for saying that. Lady Gaga | Shakira

Nicole 1,809
1. Stop comparing rape to robbery. Crimes against the person and crimes against property are two completely different things.2. Women should not have to adjust their daily activities to suit the needs of men who apparently can't keep it in his pants when they see a females upper thigh or cleavage. Women should not have to "watch how much they drink" when out celebrating with friends. Women should not have to give themselves a curfew just to keep themselves safe - which is bull**** by the way. Most victims know their rapists. 3. Its up to men. Women are never "asking for it" unless they say "yes." It is up to the male to realize that distinction. Getting mixed signals or not 150% sure? Ask - "do you want to have s-x". It's not that hard. 4. Rape is not about appearance, it's not about the preference for slutty drunk young girls. Babies are raped, children are raped, drunk women are raped, women are raped in Winter, women are raped in their homes, elderly women are raped, women who are tourists get raped. Common factor? They are all vulnerable groups. Rape against the vulnerable gives the rapist a sense of power. It's not nothing to do with clothes and appearance and quite frankly that ideal needs to be thrown out the window ASAP. Oh, and on the topic of "mixed signals" mentioned above - physical arousal isn't consent either.
Kayla 7,595
Absolutely ****ing loathsome. We as a society have to stop acting like men are animals controlled by their urges and it's the woman's responsibility to keep them in check. We are all capable of basic human compassion and thought. It's demeaning to act like all men have a uncontrolled hidden savage located within them and it's demeaning to suggest that women invite such violations. And not that it matters, but in one of my women's studies class we learned that statistics show most rape victims wear jeans or sweatpants. But even if they ran around naked, rape is rape. There is no such thing as "date rape", "legitimate rape," or "marital rape," and we should recognize this. Rape = rape. A violation is a violation, and this particularly heinous one leaves a lasting scar throughout their lives. I should know. There is no grey area as far as I'm concerned. I'm curious to what she would say to those hundreds of children raped by priests? I guess it's their fault too, all that wine flowing about, and in those cute silky outfits, right? Congratulations Chrissie, you've earned your (R) card. See you on The Five, despicable ****. What's that?! Statistics show that most rape victims are wearing JEANS AND SWEATPANTS? Looks like if you really want to keep your daughter safe you should make her put on a mini skirt before she leaves the house.

Katie14 4,828
Guys you are missing my (and possibly Chrissie's point).Who is stupid enough to say that the rapists are not the problem? That's not the point. The point is that as long as there are rapists, women should be careful with what they wear, especially at night, if they don't want to become an easy target. It sucks, and it shouldn't be this way, but it's reality. As an example, if you go away for a week and leave all your doors and windows open, and then come back to an empty apartment, would you also say that it's not your fault?Women should be careful of what they wear if they want to lower their chances of being raped in the type of situation Chrissie is talking about. That doesn't mean that women should ever be blamed or feel like they need to take responsibility if they are raped. I don't think your burglary example parallels well to rape. I understand the connection but the two situations are very different. When someone leaves their house open, they are fully exposing their house for attack. The inside of their house is more easily accessible. I still wouldn't blame the owners though. I would say they are naive and maybe stupid but I wouldn't say that its their fault. Anyway, a women walking down the street in a revealing outfit isn't making it easier for a man to attack her in the way that an open house is. Maybe she is more tempting and appealing to be raped but she isn't any more "open" or easily accessible than someone wearing a suit. If a women was on the street naked with her legs spread open, that would be a more accurate comparison.

But changing your clothes? Pants don't prevent rape.Well-said. I think she brought clothes into it, because she has a very judgmental prudish view about women who dress or act s-xy. In the same piece, she basically called every pop star from Madonna to Beyonce a prostitute. She also claimed that pop stars who call themselves feminists but use their s-x appeal to sell records were effectively just “prostitutes”. ...She went on to argue that many women who describe themselves as feminists were anything but in practice.Asked whom she meant, she said: “Women who sell what their product is by using s-x – that's prostitution.“A pop star who's walking around, parading themselves as a **** star and saying they're feminists.“They're prostitutes.
