and I don't see what's so special about Telephone

it's so "American" kind of video it hurts - but to me it's not a good thing 90% of the time

What I like about Telephone is that it's just pure fun. Along with Paparazzi, it just has this trademark Gaga aura (see what I did there?) about it. It doesn't have a particularly meaningful plot, as far as I'm aware, but it's just fun. And it has some cool looks (some unique, some not): caution tape dress, cigarette sunglasses, telephone headpiece, etc.

And yes, I agree with the overly American aspect of it. I try to ignore that part.

Compare it to other videos and music released around the same time. At its time it was more innovative, fresh, avant-garde and different than anything else going on in mainstream culture.

Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

I guess it's just a difference of opinion then.

Well I said that I understood that it's considered her magnum opus and I called it "very well-done" so obviously I like it. I was looking to understand why.

Looks like we're the minority lol :emma:

Hmm, why does it matter to you? You explained why you don't like it and that is your right, but music is subjective. What you're really asking is, "why don't people have my tastes in music?"

Do your own research.

The sets were simple yet bold

The fashion was incredible and expressive

The choreography was simple yet iconic

The song was catchy and fresh

The cinematography was professional and clean

The timing was perfect and needed

Etc etc etc

The song and video feed the feeling of excitement, even to this day it is still there.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

No, I was asking for other people's opinion on why it's considered to be Gaga's "magnum opus", while I only considered it a well-done MV. And after reading the responses, I've come to the conclusion that I didn't miss anything in terms of fashion, cinematography, plot, symbolism etc. and that it's just that I am unable to appreciate those things as much as others in the context of the MV. And that's perfectly fine, everyone can have their opinions and tastes. I was just trying to broaden my horizons (that's not the right word, but you know what I mean).

Sorry if I come across as snappy, it's not my intention

Applause?

Bad Romance was so acclaimed because she came out all guns blazing when no one knew much about her. The cinematography, graphics/visuals, choreography and plot were something that we have not seen much since Thriller. It single handedly brought back performance POP.

Furthermore, it was released when Gaga was the biggest force in the music industry. A signature video for a signature hit and album.

i agree to everything you said except applause  :bye:

Less is more sometimes. Stars alinged for br. It was a perfect balance. Over the top but still minimal enough not to be messy.  Great song, Iconic outfits easy and memorable choreography and easy to digest iconography. Bad Romance it is.

Can someone explain why the Bad Romance MV is considered Gaga's magnum opus?

This article can help you:

5 Reasons Why “Bad Romance” Is Lady Gaga’s “Thriller”

"Every once in a while a song, and its accompanying music video, will come along and cause a bit of a stir in the pop culture universe. However, only once in a blue moon does a video become such a talking point that it almost entirely eclipses the song itself"
