Why Does Freak Show Get So Much Hate?

The whole season was filled with fillers. It's like they're making the story line after they shoot the previous episode. It was a mess.

I agree with you that it was by far the most artistic season and most beautiful in that sense, but I have to disagree that the reason a lot of people don't like it is because they don't understand/appreciate art. Most people would agree that it was by far the most beautiful season in a cinematography sense and can appreciate that, but it doesn't make up for poor writing and poor management of time/characters/storylines. That's what viewers want - good storylines, good characters and a good timeline of both together. I love art, but I would throw away the artistic element of this season in a second if it meant that the writing was better.

 

yeah i wasn't suggesting it was the whole reason people didn't like it - just wanted to make a comment on it. the way it was shot wasn't conventional and may have had a small effect but it was the poor writing and plot lines/character development that let it down.

I'm pretty sure the plot of Freakshow was "the death of the Freakshow". Watching the freaks live their lives and perform while less and less people show up, and as this art becomes passé, as these people continue to be discriminated against, they suffer the detriments of their lifestyle while it's instigated by the people around them.

But of course, all AHS seasons really just have to do with Evan Peter's ass, so...

of course ! but to me its the same issue that Coven almost had. Coven almost fell into this trap of focusing on Race relations than its main topic of Witches. i mean don't get me wrong there is a parallel between the struggles of a minority (witches and blacks) but it almost lost its point. 

My issue with Freakshow was that the "death of the freakshow" was SUPPOSED to be the plot line....but it seemed to focus on EVERYTHING else. From Dandy's journey, elsa's stardom to the con artists. it just felt like it had no focus.

With previous seasons there was  a social statement about its story that made it universal. Muder House was about the death of the american family, Asylum  explored the idea that  once you are called insane by society you will always be perceived as crazy. Coven explored minority relations from both within and without. 

Freakshow had no unifying theme.....was in a repeat of Covens theme of minorities? Was it a statement on the Class System and entertainment? not really...was it a statement on who the real freaks in the world are? ehhhh

see what i mean its hard to fully find a unifying throughline in the story that ties it all together.

Freak show was interesting in the beginning but as the show continued,the plot seemed so random and the pacing was a problem too...  .

Same with Coven,it was perfect until the last three episodes came  

this is how i would rate all the seasons-

Asylum>Murder House>Coven>Freak Show

It was awful.

It was just a mess. Uninteresting characters, uninteresting plots. Shame really, because conceptually it was so exciting & the cast was perfection. Twisty was the biggest waste of a villain.

It's easy to hate. Freak Show remains great season - not the best, but still very great.

Tbh the concept was excellant really like you could see how great of a concept that would've been however it was the way they had the actors/actresses play out the parts which were set, I think and also some sloppy writing was done and everyone literally wished the season was over so they could clearly think of something better.

I just couldn't get into it.  There weren't any mysteries or conflicts that drew me in and made me want to keep watching.  The clown story was interesting, but once that ended in like episode 4, I lost interest. 

Also, I didn't really like any of the characters that much.  All the other seasons had awesome characters that I was either rooting for or against, and besides Dandy Mott, I didn't really feel that in Freak Show.

Hmm, I'm watching it a lot faster than it's intended week-by-week schedule, so hopefully I'll like it.

So far, it's the most well done season in terms of looks and atmosphere alone.
