VforVendetta 2,024
This post is made to give some direction to the people that seem lost when it comes to Gaga's place and biddings in the music world. (yes it's long but read it before posting) To begin with Pop music has a completely different aim and needs when:1. Cher and Tina Turner made Pop music 2. When Michael Jackson and Madonna made Pop music3. When Lady Gaga and Adele make Pop music 1. In the 60s and 70s Pop music (that was mainly born from Disco) had to prove that it can stand around Rock music and stay in the popular culture (become the Pop music). That's why the Pop musi cof that age is far less commercial but with modern for that age ideas, it is very unstable and gets many times critised by Rock fans. The quality standarts of the public were high back then since Rock revolution was still peaking after WW II and only the best of the best artists could manage to have the big success since there were not qual chances for everyone.2. in the 70s and 80s Pop music was on it's way to the peak and in it's peak on the 80s when Rock was still huge and innovative but was already in it's downfall from the full commercial world. In that age the aims of Pop music were innovation and legacy, taking the fountains of the previous Pop acts and creating music for a well -musically trained public. The quality stands of the public ware at their peak back then following the peak of Rock music. (in the late 70s, early 80s The Wall was created). Pop music had high standarts to compete back then and a lot of room for improvements. The Era following the 90s, which were the peak of techonlogical advance, the rise of the internet, the birth of the ''nerds'' and many other glorious things was also the beginning of the downfall for the Commercial music. There were still many great acts back then but with all the techonoly innovations, the mondernism of the industry but with all the drastic changes and the change in priorities of the public the msic world actually mde many steps forwards when it comes to industry but many stebs behind when it comes to quality. Now the image had as big importance as the sound and maybe even more, the computer started to take the league when it came to music generation, a lot more people had the chaace to become famous and the public had to choose from a lot more artist, a Public that had much less quality judgement as well,a public that started caring more about the fun and the image/s-x that the message itself, or actually they never experienced tha type of music. To prove that to yourself compare the music of the 80s with th music of the 00s, if music had a continous increase in quality and evolution the Pop of the 00s would be a lot above the Pop of the 80s which would seem iconic but completely dated. Stil not only it doesn't but it is also behind the older music most of the time.3. So now in the 00s and 10s that Lady Gaga and Adele make music, Pop music has a different mission as well, to be saved from itself and Capitalism. You can't compare the Pop of the 80s to the Pop of today because the public was in a different quality level as well and the needs were completely different. Back then people had standarts of Pink Floyd and Deep Purlple and today people have standarts of Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry. You can't compare the Pop music of today with less commercial types of music as well because the music that is made for a few has a completely different aim than music that is made for the masses. It's easy to make quality music for a portion of people that have the standarts to receive it, it's much more difficult to make good music for people with no background at all. Many will say that the pop music of some considered qualty Pop acts of today like Lady Gaga or Adele is not more innovatve than the Pop music of quality acts of the 80s while it should. That is true but as I said above you can't compare Pop in these two ages cause it has completely differet starting points. The well respected Michael Jackson made music in the age of the Pink Floyd, Lady Gaga makes music in the age of Britney Spears. So what is their offer to the Pop world and the masses of today that follow it? The children of today experience pop songs with more complex meanings, more indegrity, more emotion and real background. Yes, Born This Way is still a dance song and still a commercial song but the kid will listen to that instead of Blurred Lines, the young generation will experience pure emotional music in 21 that is about simple human emoton and is presented with raw talent, not from the products of the industry. That's what the public needs today, not innovaton but quality. Even a pure dance song can give things to a person. None of the music above is Motzart but it couldn't be and it shouldn't be as well... The thing is that Pop music in every age has it's mission. It was never alternative and the most innovative gerne. Every gerne of music has it's place in the music world and the magic of Pop music is that it talks to the masses, it has to lower the quality to do so but keeping quality in it is an achievement. The truth is that the mission of the good acts of today is sadly not to bring Pop to a new glory but to bring glory to Pop again. Music is a mirror of the background of a generation and our background is sadly very shallow when it comes to many issues (like we have progressed in many others). The job of the Pop acts of today is not the most innovative of all the generatons of Pop music but it's obviously the most important. Step by step Pop music (and the generation behind it) needs to climb the steps again. So if you wanna know if an act you support today is worth it don't compare it just with the acts of yesterdy, compare it with the ats of today and it is really helping the commercial music world reach higher standarts again then you know that is an act worth following. This is what Lady Gaga is doing for example. Call pop music basic as you want but Pop music talks to the masses and when you try to make the best of it, you make the world a better place, even step by step.
