Taylor Swift
This is an easy and obvious choice. Swift’s 1989 was the biggest album of 2014, and it’s on track to repeat that honor in 2015. The album has sold incredibly well (and continues to do so), and it has spun off some of the biggest hits of Taylor’s impressive career. 1989 is an easy choice for Album of the Year, as well as Best Pop Vocal Album. In addition to the album, she’ll have to choose one of her big hits—my money is on “Blank Space”—to submit for Best Pop Vocal Performance, as well as Record, Song, and Music Video of the Year.

Meghan Trainor
The throwback-sounding newcomer was nominated for two big trophies last year thanks to the almost-instant success of “All About That Bass”, but she went home empty handed. This time around, she has released a full length album, which will help her secure noms for Pop Vocal Album, as well as Best New Artist. None of her other singles were quite as impactful as “Bass”, but anything’s possible.

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars
The two musicians’ massive hit “Uptown Funk!” is sure to bring them a few nominations, as it was all but inescapable this past year. The global smash has a great chance of bringing home Record of the Year, and it’ll surely be up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Mars hasn’t released anything else just yet (and probably won’t by the deadline), but Ronson’s album might also have a shot, though it didn’t spend much time in the spotlight outside of “Funk!”

D’Angelo
The R&B/rock star is elusive, but that just makes Grammy voters love him more when he reappears. His third album, Black Messiah—which seemed to come out of nowhere after a fourteen year hiatus—was universally praised, and was hailed as a triumphant return. Even if he doesn’t find himself in the running for Album of the Year (which he should), he’s sure to grab a few slots in the R&B categories.

Sam Hunt
The newest, hottest name to hit country in several years, Hunt is a shoe-in for at least a few nominations. His debut album Montevallo has been moving tens of thousands of copies per weeks since it was released, and he’s had successful single after successful single. Sam is a good option for many of the country categories, as well as Best New Artist.

Kendrick Lamar
One of hip-hop’s most critically-adored artists, his sophomore effort To Pimp A Butterfly will easily snag a Best Rap Album nod, and it very well might win. He also has a fair chance at another Album of the Year nomination, though the beauty of Butterfly might not be fully understood by all the voters. It’s also worth noting that the song “i” has already won him two Grammys, so he’s off to a good start.

1989 is a contender for Album of the Year and it will be nominated for Pop Vocal Album.

Blank Space to be eligible for Song and Record of the Year (it is too big to be ignored).

In my messy era.

Unless Adele decides to take every single Grammy home in 2016 and surprise release the new album...but most likely Taylor will go home with a heavy bag full of Grammys...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

I definitely think Taylor and Kendrick will walk away with wins.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

If 1989 doesn't win album of the year there will be a bigger backlash than when BEYONCE lost it. 1989 has sales, singles, and the praise from media outlets. Those are the 3 things that I think all AOTY needs to have.

Yeah, I think so too. Plus, what BEYONCE had going against it was that Pharell's album was also nominated, so it divided the R&B/hip-hop/whatever votes. I think it's safe to say that 1989 will be the only pop album on the AOTY shortlist, so the pop votes will be concentrated on it
