Was GaGa a success because of the people around her?

I read a discussion about Gaga on another website which I found really intriguing. As fans we are quick to dismiss something like this about our fave, but it kinda makes sense. So I thought we could talk about it more on here, as this place is dedicated to Gaga-related topics.

She was manufactured by some talented people who designed her career and her unusual attention-grabbing fashion pieces. After she became famous she became arrogant as often happens and thought she was responsible for her success and started demanding more creative control. When she was given control she designed an album without any hits and it failed to bring in anywhere near as much money as the production costs. Eventually her manager and the people who had made her quit and she couldn't continue by herself

Do you agree with this? It always seemed dodgy when Gaga said she makes her own costumes but when further pressed with questions, her answer basically was that she just sketched them and others did the actual creating. Later on, she just handled these types of questions with "the house of Gaga made it". So that seems like just one example of how maybe she took credit for more things than what she was actually responsible for.

Well, none of us knows what really went down, but I do believe that Gaga's team is the key to her success. I don't dare to say much more though 'cause it's too easy to be misinterpreted on this topic and for people to call me out as a troll/hater/basher again :neyde:

well, it's never as black and white as it seems, but in the end everyone is successful thanks to the team they had, and thanks to themselves for having something that can be worked with.

I think it can be a combination of all these stories. I think Gaga is responsible for a lot of what happened in the beginning of her career, but she did have a lot of help to put everything on track for the first year or two. She knew what she wanted on a broad scale, but she had a lot of help to materialize it and make the details consistent.

Who was the one that compared Gaga's team during TFM era to the all star basketball players? That's what it made me think of. I definitely think there's a hint of truth in this tbh.

Well, she's never made an album that didn't have a hit. So that's bull**** to start out with.

Sure, her team helped her create her vision and bring it to life. The same could be said for every pop star ever. One person can't do everything. It's impossible.

She writes her own songs, creates her own video ideas, etc. The most important things. I think her team just helps her with the small details. You can pretty much tell when a singer is manufactured or not.

I wouldn't be a fan of her if she was. She's definitely the least reliant on the people around her than anybody else in the pop game IMO.

So no, I don't believe other people were responsible for her success. That's absurd.

You could also make the case that Gaga asked for more creative control because she didn't want to be labeled a fake popstar and as an artist, she was prepared to plummet for her art.

the only problem I have with this case, and Gaga's behavior about it, is that she started complainign about it after ARTPOP under-performed.... before that it was all peaches and cream, and she went as far as saying she was hiding behind the costumes before making ARTPOP and now she was finally free etc... and then **** hit the fan

Anyone remember the advice she got from Grace Jones? She mentioned it in a CNN interview in 2009.

Do your own research.
