I simply can't believe they said  "It’s the Thriller of the 2010s era". DON'T COMPARE KATY PERRY'S  WORK TO MICHAEL JACKSON'S. Just because she tied him in #1 singles, doesn't mean she is at his level. Sorry

As much as I don't wanna say it, it is iconic. 30 years from now it will be one of the albums people think of when they think of this decade (2010-2019), just like we think of albums like Thriller, Like A Virgin, She's So Unusual, Purple Rain, Bad, True Blue, Born in the U.S.A. etc, when we think of the 80's.

You may not agree with its talent level but you can't deny that it will be remembered decades down the road.

and then a shark stole the show, oh snap :teehee:

Sure, Jan. Positive press, reports from he media, critical acclaim from critics and the general public (except for some pressed stans of other artists) towards Katy and web search datas all say otherwise. Not to mention when you look up the videos of Katy's SuperBowl Halftime show on YouTube and go down on comment sections, you'll see a huge lack of comments about the left shark. Try again.

Whatever they say...:coffee:

I mean, it's a big album, it had 5 #1s, she became a global star with it...but I don't think it's that influential really and in the long run cultural impact it what really matters, bc that's what ppl will remember in a decade or two...

But I get it. Whoever made the list had to pick a #1 and it's never going to make everybody happy, so I get it (even if I disagree with it)...

Anyway, congrats Katy...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

YES! I mean, do I even have to explain? All delusional stans who disagree can stay pressed and stay in denial. Bye Felicias! :whitney: Love it or hate it, Teenage Dream is one of the most iconic/impactful, inspired, and memorable pop eras/albums of all time. It will be remembered for decades. FIGHT ME, STANS!

I don't see it as iconic. Maybe it's different in the US than in the UK, and this isn't to diminish the success of the album.

I don't know how to explain it tbh. Perhaps I'd say the era was iconic (in a commercial sense), but not so much the album? I know that sounds dumb :toofunny: I mean just because she was constantly everywhere with the promotion and the hits. I think the merits of the album are mostly credited to the success of the singles. I'm aware that the album itself sold well, but it wasn't considered influential or credible outside of stan based forums. I mean, it has a score of 52 on Metacritic...

It's an album full of cute and well executed pop songs. Despite all of it's commercial success, nothing she did during that era permeated culture in a way that would establish her as iconic. The music wasn't adventurous or interesting - even by pop standards - and there were no real statements or themes.

Just like it's content, all of the achievements of Teenage Dream are superficial and material. There was nothing important or substantial. That's where the line for iconic is drawn, for me anyway.

Well, based from the past years, we could consider it iconic. No one will forget that big juicy jugs of hers.

The article offends me.

I read that TD saved pop music industry that was being dominated by The Fame.  Well not exactly the same wording, but same idea/opinion nonetheless.

I don't consider artists who rely on their looks to be iconic

Lol, no.

#1 do not make an album 'iconic'. Just a bunch of mainstream cookie cut crap.

If you want the real iconic albums, search for The Fame Monster and 21.

In my messy era.
