Some of it is coming from stan wars on ATRL and twitter bleeding over here.... and its over people like Lana and people calling Melanie a copy-cat (when shes clearly more influenced by Marina than someone like Lana anyway, but regardless her music and lyrics and voice sound NOTHING like either of them :wtf: )

Yeah It's funny how Lana stans are offended while Marina stans are like ''Yeah she got inspired by Electra, but I like it so whatever'' :coffee:

"Cry Baby shows that Martinez is admirably ambitious, but her insistence on sticking to the album's central idea leaves her contorting into uncomfortable positions."

Typical that Billboard would see that as a negative.

wtf!! the album is super cohesive and one central idea or image that gets unfolded in all its different layers. I know cause i listened to it more than once and read the interview about it.

Billboard is ****ed up tbh. That's like them saying Applause isn't the first single of ARTPOP while it is.

I can understand where Jason Lipstick is coming from, but I don't understand how Cry Baby is a worse album than Britney Jean or PRISM:neyde:

Whatever tho. Congrats to Melanie for having a consistent, fleshed-out concept album as her debut.

I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

Martinez who?

I really don't keep up with todays pop music... and to be honest, it doesn't look like I should!

At least every other site that has reviewed it so far loves it

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

LMAO it honestly kills me that they'd dare give this album 2/5 when they gave PRISM as positive of a review as they did... They've become a joke.

I saw her live about a month ago. Wasn't because I was a fan or anything I just happen to be at an event she sang at. Her voice was good. Better then I remembered from the voice. But songs were ehhh.... So I would have to agree with Billboard on this one. Nice girl tho talked to her for about 20 min after the show. Hope her next album is better.

Why have one stand out track when the whole thing stands out? I've never understood the concept of people thinking all of the songs are on the same level. I think all the songs are amazing. I can literally listen to the whole thing and not skip a track. Why have a few peaks when you can have the whole thing be a peak? This kind of ideology just doesn't make sense to me.

I mean the depth is there if you look a little.

"Tag, You're It" is about s-xual assault.
"Mrs. Potato Head" is about self image issues.
"Soap" is about being too forward with someone you like.
"Carousel" is about being in a bad love cycle with someone.
"Syrup" is about depression and poorly coping.

Sure, she uses childish motifs, but it's incredibly smart most of the time. It's not just laid out there for all to see. You have to scratch the surface and actually dive deep down with some of them.

this post makes me want to give it a listen. I think the theme is cringey but I didn't know she was talking about  actual things... Interesting.

And this is why I lost all my hope in Billboard. So because an artist sings about real, devastating and not altogether uncommon issues and circumstances, as opposed to s-x, clubbing and meaningless nonsense it 'fizzles'. I'm very curious as to why meaningful or 'dark' lyrics are thought less of. Oh, wait. I know. There is nothing basic or bubblegum pop-ish that the media can chew on in this album. It is a true masterpiece with lyrics of meaning and depth, and it can still carry a catchy tune at the same time!

The author of this ****post is extremely biased and has a stick shoved up her/his arse

This is the most ignorant thing I have read today. If you don't know what you are talking about, shut the **** up :later:
