Was ARTPOP overhyped?

I agree to some extend and I see your point but as I said above hype was needed after Gaga's big absence fromt he music scene. I agree that she didn't need to say big words in BTW Era cause she had all attention in her but with AP all publicity was needed, so I do think that it was not overhyping. It was just hyping, the result just wasn't the expected one.

You should see me face when I saw all that huge post though. I'm too drunk for this. :lmao: Going to bed tbh.

Hoping you sleep well :nick:

And while I get that.. I have to disagree again. She actually made most ARTPOP statements in 2012, nearly a full year before release while promoting a perfume that caused a media storm for weeks. She didn't need any publicity around that time, especially since she was on tour promoting her last record (which had a lot of press attention as well, sometimes positive, sometimes negative). So, in truth, she didn't even need to say a word about her next record at that time, definitely not to spark publicity that was already there for multiple reasons.

I'm not trying to change the past or blame Gaga for anything, just trying to meet you halfway & explain why I do think there was an overhyping situation going on, even though probably unknowingly on Gaga's part.

Yes but do you remember the conditions of the fanbase after Gaga broke her hip? The fans had meltdowns like once every 2 days. Then she dissapeared and many thought that she would retire or something. Then some articles about Gaga;s carrer being over were written and many fans jumped ship along with the BTW haters that blamed the album. Gaga dropped in the Social charts and lost her twitter crown and many complained that she wasn't everywhere on the media anymore. There was insecurity everywhere. I don't know if the exposure was really needed after all but the fans definitely needed to calm down.

I do but.. like I said, the most statements about how great ARTPOP was gonna be were already made long before that. The ARTPOP hype didn't really start at all until that promo pic I posted on the first page and the "Lady Gaga Is Over" promo clip and after those there was actually another relative silence about the era's projects followed by the release of Applause.

So imo the overhyping began in the summer of 2012 and came to an end during her BTWB cancellation, to rise again before Applause as a repeat of what she had already said was going to happen in late 2012.

Re-reading your post I'm not really sure I got what you were trying to say.. :rip:

it's like 2016 already

can we please stop with these ARTPOP threads asking the same kinds of questions over and over

There's nothing harder for people to do than admit they were fooled.

To me, not delivering on important promises is the epitome of overhype. We were being hyped for things that didn't exist in the form we expected or things that didn't exist at all. I personally believed that the era was gonna huge based on the language and tone of the ad somebody posted in the beginning of the thread. It's unfortunate that Gaga wasn't able to fulfill those promises to us because of extraneous issues, but that doesn't change the fact that we were given expectations that weren't fulfilled.

With that said, I still love ARTPOP and the two released music videos that came from the era. :music:

I think that overhyping has to do with empty tweets and big words for no reason. Announcing plans but failing to make them is bad managing. The hype is neccesary for a successful Era, it's not like Gaga new all the problems and the mes sthat woulkd occur (I don't know if this makes any sence cause I'm too drunk at the moment but I think it does).

That made perfect sense! I think we agree, we just have slightly different opinions on what the knock on effect would have been! :nick:

Enjoy your hangover! :trollga:

I see where you are going but I think we are doing circles. :neyde:

I think we can at least agree that the hype was very different from BTW Era hype.

The album is amazing, but Troy's leaving probably ruined it. If everything happened as it was planned, it was going to be normal. I don't know why it's called a flop, it's so artistic and beautiful. :hor:

Fan bases will always overhype their favorite's new release. ARTPOP was on the road to success but honestly with the DWUW mess it kind of ruin the album's success. If the album was as successful commercially as TFM, you guys wouldn't refer to ARTPOP as overhyped.

Preach it!!!  :applause:

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

Not necessarily...just revealed too soon...

As much as I love Swinefest and Gag leaking Aura...we had heard most of the songs before the album actually dropped...therefore leaving very little excitement when it did come

Also...swinfest backfired also because fans liked the live versions more than the album versions...
