Born To Slay

No it's not.I've listened to the album 3 or 4 times and I was actually very excited about it the first time..But it's horrible..It has 2-3-4 decent-good songs..But the album overall is just horrible

I recommend giving it another chance. After commenting on this thread about BJ, I went back and listened to it in full. It was a great album. It's a shame Britney didn't give it the promo it deserves.

I do think the album would have done a lot better if sufficient promotion was provided. And I am also about to give Britney Jean another listen when I have the time. :nick:

She gave a promo performance to Pretty Girls but not Britney Jean. Where's the logic there? Granted Pretty Girls deserved the promo it got but BJ deserved promo performances.

And that great, I reccomend giving it a shot when you can really listen and appreciate it for the masterpiece it is.

It grew on me after like 10 listens, won't say it's a terrible album, maybe just not good enough to be compared with her previous work but like the other member stated, I listen to it with a very open and accepting mind.

I guess it's a matter of opinion..But I hardly even listened to the album the second time.. I consider it to be one of the worst albums of the MAINSTREAM pop world..I just can't find anything good about it.. Cliche and at parts cringeworthy lyrics? Check Horrible autotuned vocals? Check  Generic cheap production? Check  Unmemorable melodies? Check.. The only 2 songs that are really well made imo are Work B!tch and Perfume.. I don't want to sound disrespectful to the album or Britney,I am just stating my opinion :flirt:

I would rate the album with 3,5-4/10

I agree with all of these points, especially the one in bold. Not every single track is a home run, but they all share the same depth of musicianship and detail. It's clear that a consummate musician is at the helm, every step of the way.

Didn't Gaga admit that Interscope had been ****ing with her vocals, and hadn't let her put some of the tracks she originally wanted to put on ARTPOP? :rip:

OT:

I think the review is a biT exaggerated, it's an okay album that is good to listen to (sans a few songs) if you're in the mood imo, but it's not exactly as good as they make it out to be. It's more of a 65-75 range.. I feel like if she really had control over this whole era and the music that went into it, it would have been a much better album

The vocals are far less manipulated than they were on her first two albums, so not sure what her problem was there. Her singing on ARTPOP is stellar.

And do you have a quote for that second point? From what I've read, she has done nothing but stand by ARTPOP as it is now.

“Well, it’s been extremely liberating for me ’cause jazz is rebellious. And I’m a rebel at heart ( :green: ). So in that way it’s also me rebelling against my own pop music – that’s really exciting for me. But I think the thing that has been the most powerful has been, there’s a part of me that has been quiet for a long time that is now being reawakened, after years of producers and record label people telling me to make my voice sound more radio-friendly.

“Since The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way, they’ve been auto-tuning it more, or changing the timbre. They take the vibrato out so you sound like a robot.”

Gaga: “Temple.”

It's clear that her vision for the album wasn't what she intended it to be, as much as she may love it, I think she knows everything could have gone much better had she been more in control

That first bit does nothing to dissuade me from the fact that her vocals sound cleaner, and less AutoTuned, in ARTPOP than the previous three. See "Fashion!", "Mary Jane", "Dope", "MANiCURE", and so on. Her vibrato and vocal nuances are clearly distinguishable.

Choosing singles has nothing to do with the album itself. And songs that had been written with the intention of being on the album? Gaga has said she writes dozens and dozens per album. Most of them will not make it. We have not heard "Temple" or "TEA", and it's entirely possible that, when all was said and done, they didn't fit. The era could have gone smoother, that's for sure, but we have zero indication that Gaga is unhappy with the record itself.

Their ratings are always insanely high but I appreciate the love, Billboard. :flirt:

Only Work Bitch and Perfume? Are you sure you are being fair to the album while judging and not affected by the magic of promotion and single release? cause if this is the case any song which is not released as a single or is not performed is going to have less chance in being deemed a good song when the melody before and after promotion of a song has always been the same
