Gaga looked so unrecognizable in 2012

I think she looked beautiful most of the time.   I'm sure Gag was pretty exhausted most of the time during the BTW tour and with everything that was going on at the time. Also, she was in significant pain at the end of 2012 and that will take its toll on the body.

I think that was her worst era face-wise. The huge thick eyebrows paired with the barely there eye makeup and overly plumped lips just didn't really come together well as a full look. For one thing, if an eyebrow is going to be that thick and dark you need to balance it out with the right amount of eye make-up or it will overwhelm the face. 

I'm sure Tara is nice, but I think Sarah Tanno definitely has a better eye for what suits Gaga's face because even her most outré looks appear neater and more attractive than whatever was going on in 2012 IMO. I feel like Tara doesn't like to give Gaga a full eye, and that really makes a difference.

I always thought of the second half of 2012 as her "Lana" phase cuz of the long brown hair and the plumped up lips and "Princess Die" + the rumoured collab with Lana on the song. Even her fashion was sometimes a little Lana-esque to me. And all the pot she did scared me. Sometimes it looked like Gaga and Tara looked the same cuz of the makeup of that time. And of course the pre-ARTPOP theories sprouting like weeds.

It was a mess to me lol even though she still slayed.

The looks themselves slayed but Gaga was incredibly unhealthy, physically and mentally, and her face especially reflected that. It was very puffy and you can see it especially in the shots of her recording where she isn't wearing makeup. 

It makes me sad thinking of her like that but I'm just glad she's so much healthier now. :)

I think it's definitely makeup choices (don't completely blame Tara! a lot of it must have been Gaga's own choice), but also the temporary cosmetic work she got done.

After a while, she just started looking... sick. Ish? Like, not her. I don't want to comment too much on it, because I know it was a weird time for her, all considering it was the start of her d--g problem and internal pains.

Oddly enough, and this is just my opinion- she only really looked herself when she was performing on tour. I don't know if it's because of makeup choices (I don't think her on stage makeup was as different as her Princess High makeup- they were near identical) or instead that she just lives it up on stage.

She actually looked alive, in comparison.

idk she only seemed more herself to me either when she was performing on tour, or when she was up close with fans, like at the orphanages in Brazil, or when she visited that school is Peru for UNICEF.

If you go to ladygagallery and go to Candids > 2012, you will see how her face/makeup/aesthetic has changed over the months of that year.

She seems to have started getting lip injections around April:

 

 May: Face starts to look a bit more bloated.

July-August: Lip injections become more prominent.

September: she begins to develop the 'Princess High' look.

Yeah her makeup artist now (Sarah) is really talented and creative whereas Tara was sloppy and only did winged eyeliner. Gaga looks professional now eye makeup wise.

2012 was the best she's looked her whole career, plus she didn't have cosmetic work done, she had temporary fillers that she got every 3-4 months and sometimes more plus face tape.

Plus she had full coverage foundation and everything on her face, she was contoured for the gods imo.

Her stoner days from June 2012 - Jan 2013 were my fave tbh, but kinda saddens me she only looked like that because Troy and Jimmy were telling her she NEEDED to look pretty.

HOWEVER, I think she looks like a real-life cartoon disney princess with the way she shaped her face with makeup and her wigs.
