Luiz 4,253 Posted June 7, 2016 Share Posted June 7, 2016 welp its pretty much over. bernie got my vote but it isnt enough. even though he wont win i still would like to thank him just for being him. I havent been alive for very long but i've never seen a politician who can make me genuinely believe that he cares about people like me who didnt grow up with much. obama, both clintons and all the republicans were at certain points "cool" to support. even george had our support after 9/11 but even though they might have been looked upon by myself and those around me as good presidents, they always were to me just people doing their job. they dont actually care about the people they serve but they do what they have to in order to gain he support of the people they serve. they were the right people for the job of president. they are people who can appear generous in public but also make tough decisions without emotion because thats what you need to do as a strong leader bernie is not a strong leader, he has too much heart for that. when I hear bernie speak, he does it in a way that doesnt just sound like he wants my vote. he is speaking FOR me rather than TO me. sure, other candidates may have spoken of goals similar to his but none say it with the conviction that he does that makes me believe he actually means it. i'm poor, i'm uneducated and it seems to me that most people like me will gravitate towards these types of people. those who can make you FEEL like they care rather than someone who gives a bunch of intelligent, measured and logical statements but also come off like they are just reading a teleprompter. maybe thats why so many dumb people are gravitating towards trump. not because of any kind of intelligent ideas he has but he makes them feel as though he is being genuine and that counts for a whole hell of a lot in the minds of the peasants such as myself . bernie has shown me that with support from average people and with a message that is genuine and not just keeping the status quo, a candidate can gain enough support to have a chance. bernie hasnt restored my faith in the political system but has given me faith that more people like him will have even greater impact in the future in order to change the political system. basically bernie game us hope and hope, for some, can be a very very difficult thing to let go of so i can understand why bernie's supporters are so adamant about holding on. i get it, he was our guy, the guy who gave independents hope. just because he lost doesn mean hope has to die though. the real test here making sure this momentum of political awareness continues and can carry over in the next few years. if people who loved bernie and espouse his ideals can keep the pressure on the democratic party to change their stances on some policies then all isnt for naught. get out and vote and no matter who you vote for, make sure when it comes to choosing senators and congress, you choose democrat. the only people willing to give bernie's ideas the time of day are the democrats and as long as congress and senate are republican then nothing will ever change. when you vote in the general just make sure you vote democrats into congress. ok i'm done rambling I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. I love human geography and I think I'll really look into US elections... the concepts of swing states and identity politics is really new for me so that will be interesting to discove I guess. Many polls show 90% of the Bernies being on board with Clinton. People unsatisfied with both of the major party candidates ALWAYS end up going to 3rd parties. 3rd parties are as much of a threat this election as they were during '12 and '08 and '04...I think '00 they were actually a threat but that's up for debate. Basically combined, 3rd parties always get upwards of 1% of the popular people. That's like 2 million of people that ALWAYS end up voting against the 2 parties and they always end up being about as harmful as the people that voted for Mickey Mouse. I guess 2000 was an exception then (4 years of Bush thanks to the Green Party).. Good to hear. Maybe this thread could be expanded to include Senate and House elections (so elections in general), which I think could be more interesting than the actual presidential elections which Hillary will win quite likely..
