Music not the bling? Why not music AND the bling?

She meant it in the way she's not going to make music that knows it's going to sell instead she's going to make music she likes and if that music finds success then that's icing on the cake. Gaga fans and users of atrl use it ironically

First post was the tea. Why is this still open?

Music that does not follow a conventional structure, length and is produced in an unconventional manner / state of mind. Adding an outro to a commonly structured pop song is not experimental, creating an album that is essentially rave inspired - lite yet gayish type of music is not experimental, infusing sub genres (such as : rock or trap for instance) onto pop music is not experimental, opening your song with a 40 second intro is not experimental, singing in wacked vocals on top of a pop melody is not experimental. The closest thing to experimental music that the gay audience is exposed to is probably FKA Twigs. Here's an example :

I'm currently listening to twigs (who I've grown to love) and by your definition, she isn't very experimental either. Lemme take Breathe for example. Very standard structure. Intro - verse - pre chorus - chorus - verse - chorus - bridge - chorus - instrumental outro. The same as HML. Then there's length. Breathe is 4:16. Very standard time for most songs. Who knows what state of mind she was when recording the song? Seems like she was in a pretty happy, level headed state of mind.

Now, I'm not saying twigs isn't experimental but Gaga herself can be experimental in her own right. There's obviously gonna be her Just Dance's but she also has her Bloody Mary's. Give credit where it's due.

It has been music and the bling for her entire career.

She can have both for all I care, but that doesn't mean I won't be bitter about her continuous "look at me, I'm a true artist, I'm the only pop star with any integrity" game that inevitably backfired soon enough. When she spent more money on her mansion than her tour hell yes I was disappointed because that's not balanced, and once, she swore that she would invest all the money she made into her work. That to me would actually be a marvellous way of applying the "music not the bling" message.

So yeah, all fans should be fine with it. But it definitely bursts the bubble of Gaga surpassing everyone in artistic integrity. Some fans don't easily forget that she had the balls to say "I wouldn't change my art and myself for anyone, I'd go back to performing in bars" in an era that showed, more than anything else, that she, in fact, had to and was apparently perfectly fine with it and had been fine with it for years.

I find it so odd that you resent someone for buying a house. She put it off for years and years, and finally decided to settle down...since she is getting married and starting to pursue multiple interests. Do you know the tax laws in the U.S.? Renting at her level of income is CRAZY!! Gaga has needed to buy multiple houses for years now, as a tax shelter. There really is no telling how much money she has lost over the past five or six years, by not owning a home.

Why are you "bitter" over someone's financial choices that have absolutely nothing to do with you?  Do you realize how ridiculous that is, to be upset at some pop star for buying a home for themselves? And the fact that you expect Gaga to pour all her money into her career and not invest in herself, her family and her future? Your expectations are completely out of line here!

Gaga did invest in this past era. She brought the full tour set to Australia, even though the transportation cost and set up of all that equipment wasn't going to be covered by LiveNation. She paid for the G.U.Y. Video. She also refused to make the first televised performance in New York a corporate event with advertising everywhere, so she paid for that herself. She also put all her money she made from doing the Roseland shows into her set for artRave. Who knows what else she paid for...or had to pay for, that we never heard about.

I also find it odd that you can't understand that people say things that they don't always do or they change their minds. Their idealistic world in their early 20s gives way to realistic thinking as they get older. Your brain isn't even fully formed until you are 25. Your brain actually changes from your early twenties to your late twenties. Life experiences continue to keep you changing your mind, because you grow and evolve, throughout your life.

I agree it's a bit redundant. If there wasn't any BLING, there wouldn't be any MUSIC. Her ability to create and see her vision brought to life rests on those laurels.

You completely ignored the essence of my post. I'm not bitter about her financial moves, I even wrote that in my post. I expect every celebrity to behave the way she does.

The "change your mind" thing is completely irrelevant too because I actually drew a continuation line between her early statements and her recent ones. She's still saying the same thing but her actions are different. Do I blame her for that? No. I just said it bursts a bubble. Which is all.

So take your overdramatizing ass somewhere else & don't pretend like you know me.

To those of you that are saying it's a cop out for her floppage....she wrote the damn line before ARTPOP was released

Oscar for president. :coffee:

People still fighting over such a simple and honest statement like this. It's literally ''I don't want to sell out my music for the money''. Peace everyone.:proud:

Well if it's music and the bling, wouldn't you just be a sellout anyways? Taylor went pop and she got those coins but the music is typical pop radio! (Not discouraging her, it's just the truth). Some artists are in it for the music, some are in it for the money.

My perfect example of truly expiremental is Kimbra. The Golden Echo was definitely a fantastic album but she had her songs that followed the standard ABABCB structure but it was forsure out of the norm of what any other pop musician is doing. Had various vocals, instrumentals, rhythms, and melodies that would definitely differentiate from a standard pop album and a expiremental one. However, it wasn't commercially successful but critically acclaimed.

Gaga's actions are different because her mind has changed.

You discuss her move to LA frequently, like she personally betrayed you. I find it odd that what a popstar does with their living arrangement bothers you so much.

You can act like you aren't overdramatizing the fact that Gaga has grown up and changed all you want, but this has been several comments now you have discussed this.

I will comment on anything I'm interested in, whether it is to agree or disagree, and that includes your comments sometimes. You have the choice to have a discussion or not reply back.

You're not interested in my comments, though. You don't even try to read them properly.

I clearly can't even convince you, which is laughable because this is me literally saying to you that I don't mean things the way you think and you're so hung up on your own delusions about me that anything I say is pointless. That's not a good conversation.

Anyway, we're both saying the exact same thing but you think I disapprove even though my personal post denied that. So this is really not worth a discussion like this.

I've read your comment and I've seen you express the same points before. What are you saying in these comments about Gaga spending her own money on the tour (which she did do) or about Gaga buying a house? Are you saying that she has simply grown up from her early twenties to late twenties, so has changed her mind and thoughts on what she wants out of life? Are you saying that that's a normal occurrence as people get older?

No because I don't even know her lmao. I'm not gonna try to find a reason for her changing her mind from behind my laptop. All I can say is she changed her mind and her "I spend all the money I make on my career" holier-than-thou strategy is not gonna work anymore like she used it (geniusly) until 2013.
