What's basic income?

And I wonder how this wll effect me since I'm majoring in transportation and logistics management..?

Basic income is welfare for every single person which should be enough to live from, paid by the government. For example 1000 for every single person. This would elliminate the Republican anti-welfare arguments, allow more personal freedom and less bureaucracy, and allow for a simpler system because other forms of welfare can be elliminated.

And THIS is why the United States needs to invest in higher education for EVERYONE. Those truck drivers could be working other jobs given the training. We are moving into a new phase of civilization, but our Government is still stuck in the ****ing 1980's. 

Depends.  I'm a trucker and yes, I would rather have a stay home job.  But I screwed around when I was young when I should have gone to school . 

But...the truckers I know, only a few would benefit from education.  A large percentage aren't english speaking well enough for  school and still need to learn their abc's, others already seem to know it all.

sure it would eliminate welfare, but welfare doesnt cost even close to what basic income would cost... Im not sure how wed pay for this  

 

I still think the future should entail more investment in Corporations... While I do not believe technology eliminates jobs, the efficiency gains still benefits the companies more than the workers hence why although jobs still exist, pay hasnt risen as much as it has for top 2%

 

i think at least part of the solution would be to come up with a system where everyone deducted to put money into owning shares of big companies and if they dont understand how to invest have options to have others do it for them...

 

people sometimes forget big corporations are actually everyones. It isnt a single rich owner, anyone can buy shares from them and earn a portion of its income via dividends

 

if Corporate profits rise but incomes do not, one way to share income is have people get a share of those profits by owning part of these companies

 

im not saying thats what will solve issues, but i think it should be a part of it

Here in Canada this could be a even bigger issue than in the US...

 

Due to our spread out population and vast distances between some cities, a lot of driving is very long for many hours. We cannot do bulk trips as easily as in the US (maybe part of the reason a few things still cost more here than in the US)

 

I forgot the exact numbers but an even higher percentage of our population works as truck drivers than in the US. In fact it was one of the very highest in the world...

 

Most of these guys dont speak any english here either... If these jobs go, im not sure what they are gonna do...

 

As usual, long term the efficinecy gains making things cheaper and the labor it frees up for other tasks benefits the economy. However with any technological development, although it tends to be a net positive for everyone as a whole, theres always loosers

Surely at some point there will be a clash between the capitalist/corporate drive to make profits and the 'small folk''s need to earn a fair wage?
