darkchylde 14,857
Katy's 5 #1 singles from Teenage Dream were consecutive. Style did not made it to #1 on Billboard Hot 100, and no. Teenage Dream and 1989 eras are not similar. Katy did not became as overexposed as Taylor has become this era. It wouldn't be far away until Taylor becomes overexposed enough and people will see her true colors and get over her. Thus that will lead to her future singles underperforming (at least in comparison). Plus, Katy did not release eight singles from Teenage Dream. She released 6. The other two were released from the reissue album, Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. Teenage Dream and Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection were two separate eras. A lot of people count them as one because TDTCC was a re-release of TD, but in reality, they were separate eras. Katy was very big and popular in the TD era, but she never became overexposed. Everything Taylor does or says now makes headlines, and she and her contents get endless [artificial and fake for the most part] acclaim. That was not the case with Katy in 2010-2011. It does seem to me that Taylor tried to recreate Katy's success and impact from the Teenage Dream era, though. But I think Taylor's attempt at that will slap back, and it wouldn't end well for her. When Unconditinally was released, Roar, Dark Horse and Walking On Air were slaying, so it got overshadowed. If Katy waited for Roar, DH and WOA to die out a little bit and then released Unconditionally, I'm sure it would've done better. Birthday underperformed for many reasons. It's music video, lack of promo (literally, no actual promo except for a pre-recorded performance at the Billboard Music Awards), and Dark Horse still slaying & dominating at the time of it's release caused it to underperform. This Is How We Do had absolutely NO PROMOTION. I'm sure if Katy or her record label promoted it, it would've at least been a top 10 hit. I haven't laughed so hard in ages. darkchylde 14,857
At everyone comparing Teenage Dream and 1989 - 1989's lyrics, music and production are on a whole another level, don't even try.
Pop 4,541
I haven't laughed so hard in ages. Right? KatyKats are so deluded. Taylor already stomped all over Katy's career with her first few albums, she has nothing to prove because she is way above her. Like, congrats - Katy had one huge era! Good for her! Taylor had 5. I just want Taylor to reach 3 more #1s with this album so they finally shut the hell up about Teenage Dream and accept the fact that she's going downhill. I honestly can't wait for Katy's next era and the the meltdowns of the KatyCats. The latter part of the PRISM era already proved she is no longer the hit maker she used to be and she will fail to reinvent herself because she lacks creativity and charisma to do that. #JusticeForARTPOP will be real The Taylor Brigade: KNOCKOUT
gagzus 15,931
I like the album but it's got a 5 single max tbh she's overexposing it & in all honesty seems like she just wants to break Katy's record or milk this album BC obvs this is her peak so the next album won't sell near as much

darkchylde 14,857
I just hope Taylor delivers amazing remixes for the rest of the singles from 1989. I LOVE the Bad Blood remix and I expect nothing less for Wildest Dreams and New Romantics. She better feature Lorde or HAIM in New Romantics or I'm voodooing her through my stan card. DiscoHeaven23 35,007
To the people saying she's overexposing herself and it's not going to work... -Michael Jackson released 7 singles for Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous. He did fine. -Janet Jackson released 7 singles for Control and Rhythm Nation. She did fine. -George Michael released 6 singles for Faith. He did fine. and probably many others that I don't have time to search. 1989 is one of the biggest albums of our time so she is smart to keep releasing singles. Just like Michael, Janet and George did.
