No Angel 128
Is this surprising in the least bit, though?Hollywood filmmakers are revisionist historians when it comes to important parts of history like this. Black people fought for their rights during the Civil Rights movement? Somewhere behind the water hoses and bloodshed was a white man cheering for them, so let's make him the protagonist. Latinos and Asians and Natives did something for themselves? Somewhere a white dude helped them, so let's create a white-savior themed film. Americans will love it! It's the same formula over and over and over. If it makes for a great plot, put a pretty white boy in there and you'll have a flick. But this is just sickening. The nerve of them to even make it seem like he was the catalyst. The worst thing about it is that it'll have young people in our community (of all shades) thinking a white male was behind it all, when we all know that's a lie. And young kids of color will walk around having their history in this community erased thinking they were on the sidelines rather than in the front putting so much work in. Of course there were tons of white LGBT fighting alongside Marsha and Sylvia, but really?! This is disheartening.LGBT PoC are already troubled when it comes to making our voices heard, since we rarely ever receive a massive platform white counterparts get, and this comes as another blow. This is why so many QPoC have resentment towards some white LGBT members who couldn't give three ****s about us. This is blatant trash.
DrewStevens 5,249
I've been reading a lot of stuff about this movie and I still can't believe that they made this. It's so upsetting to see that they are erasing people from the history.Another thing that bothers me is that almost every post on internet or video about this movie talks about "whitewashing" but no one says anything about the fact that none of the main characters is trans or a drag queen. This is disrespectful towards everyone from the LGBT community and the black community and the sad part is that it's not getting as much attention as it should because in the LGBT community trans people are a minority and on the other side homophobia and transphobia are very strong in most black communities in America.
