Slipknot's Corey Taylor: Pop music is insulting

No matter how much of a point he has, it's SO boring to listen to rockers/rock fans s*it on pop music when they only know of the most basic and over played songs

He's right in some of the things he says. But there is good pop music out there.

Well.. pop music is an art form in itself. Modern pop music has become all about a sleek and perfect sound, more electronic than human. But that doesn't discredit it. Pop music is the art form of creating a universal song from a universal emotion. I used to think songs written by teams of songwriters were disingenuous but there's an art to writing a perfect pop song. There's a pop vocabulary, a formula for everything, "go to" chords for certain reactions, rules regarding the tempo..etc.

Just because music isn't coming from the singer alone isn't enough to discredit it. I love a catchy pop song that follows the formulas here and there. They're formulas for a reason. They work and Auto-Tune is just another way to gloss over and perfect the song. Now if the artist can't actually sing, they have no business being a singer. But I have no problem with real singers using Auto-Tune. I see his point that it seems more fake and lifeless but it's just a different art form than what he does. Pop songs written by a team of hit-makers don't serve the same purpose as Slipknot because they're meant to appeal to everyone and they do. Plus, it's not like the producers and songwriters don't dedicate their lives to music as much as he does. It's just a different kind of music. 

He's being pretentious and screaming out for authenticity, but people like what they like. A normal singer-songwriter isn't as interesting a persona as Miley's or Britney's, or even Taylor's.  Most pop stars careers are highly calculated anyway so why does he expect any different from the music?

He is right about the pop music that plays on the radio. It's almost lifeless and 99% autotuned vocals. But in this age where almost everyone has internet it's always your choice to listen to that. You can find thousands of musicians on internet for free. 

Also I don't think he should be so harsh on these artists considering that his music is not really that good either.
