Quark 7,098
o<(0_0)>oDon't be fooled by the title, Gaga has obviously been very popular throughout her career (in fact recent artists have yet to surpass her peak), but I think is will always be hard for Gaga to be popular among the GP and the music industry. And I am not saying this because she can't do it, I am saying this because of the of the type of artist Gaga is. It is in Gaga's nature to always be risky, weird, and controversial with everything she does. Artists like Katy Perry and Taylor Swift tend to remain at the top of the music scene because almost everything they do is safe, relatable, and conventionally acceptable. Unlike Gaga, these artists rarely do anything to provoke and alianate the GP. But Gaga, as much as she wants to be commercial, cannot resist in inserting her weird and creative ideas into her creations, even if that means alienating many people. JustPokeHerFace 2,564
The most remembered and successful legends are some of the most polarizing. It'll be fine, because she's the type of artist that if she takes a risk and does it right, she REALLY does it right. Plus, her talent has given her a pretty good reputation. Hauser 1,262
She was commercial and weird during the entire Fame Monster era and slayed the most in recent years though. It really is about the quality of material that Gaga puts out.

Also, the music also became less mainstream after TFM.

Bette Davis 12,742
She set the bar so high for herself and now she's having trouble reaching or surpassing her prior success. She's far from a hasbeen or failure yet (most artists cannot even touch her lowest levels of success) but the media will always call her one until she reaches the same level of success or surpasses it. Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

Yes. The media has different standards for her because she did set the bar high. Hopefully she does it again with LG5.

I really hope so! I think the media has changed their perspective towards her since she toned down her image and proved she is legitimately talented to the masses. All she has to do is release a quality album with good videos and I think she will be good to go honestly Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet. Once she released the Alejandro video, the meat dress and started her speeches during her shows, she started losing the GP. It was all a little too weird.Despite Gaga being a more polarizing artist that little girls, their moms and tweens aren't really interested in...she still managed three number one albums and sold out tours for those albums after TFM. The ARTPOP era was really toned down (the puke performance and her creative rebel phase were the oddest parts of the era) and it still wasn't commercial in comparison to her most polarizing BTW era which was her most successful. Riot Poof 2,236
I think Gaga may end up being an album artist with a devoted fanbase (aka us). That's not a bad thing, unless you're a chart stan. I strongly believe she'll shine above her peers in 20 years when everything popular in this decade (and the latter half of the previous decade) gets critically reevaluated. Future critics will praise her and credit her for heavily influencing the pop landscape.Commercial success is always great, but not at the expense of artistic integrity and music quality. I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

BTW was the result of success of the TFM era. ARTPOP started off at a severe disadvantage, due to the BTW era ended up going. And what? BTW wasn't the most successful era. It started off really good, coming off of the era before...but then failed to maintain steady album sales and the era was over quickly. (Especially for the way it started off) Word of mouth over the album killed the era and ended up hurting Gaga overall in the long run. It's been a long road trying to come back and she's still fighting that battle.
