It happened very quickly, sure, but I fail to see an issue here. It's never too soon to become a voice for the LGBT community and what Caitlyn has done so far is great. She doesn't have to stay quiet for a certain period of time before being able to try making a difference.

Why is she acting surprised?

Didn't she already see that one in the future?

I came in this thread ready to draw blood, but after reading her opinion I have to say I understand where she's coming from. I don't necessarily support her saying this or totally fall in line with her train of thought, but on a certain level I get her frustration.

No I just think Bruce was terrified of his issues his entire life (I say he/his because I'm speaking in past tense) I'm sure there were times where Bruce would have liked to stand up for the LGBT community, but whenever he thought about it, it probably scared him to death. So he kept quiet. Now that she finally has the courage to do and say what she wants, it's like everything is coming out all at once. It's only natural.

I'm Chloe. Except the C and the L are silent.

She waited for 65 years. Let her live her new life however she wants to. Her advocacy doesn't take away from others doing the same in their communities and in their world. Why try so hard to put a negative spin on something so positive?

What exactly is the "time frame" one should use in these matters? Does it vary with where you live, your age, your acceptance level in your group of family and friends? Who is dictating these rules and guidelines for how and when people should advocate?

There are individuals who naturally have more of a spotlight, due to their particular situation or circumstances. Some people are more driven to be advocates and some don't feel comfortable doing so. Let people live their lives!

yeah kinda.

But I believe Caitlyn's spotlight was paid for. i think Caitlyn's story is nothing MORE than what other transgender people have gone through.

Bruce was the symbol for male American athleticism. Seeing an athletic icon betray heteros-xual expectations, and even bigger than that gender expectations, is a huge freaking deal. Her money and the seemingly positive feedback definitely was better than what most trans people go through but having to come to terms with your gender in front of the whole world (especially when you're expected to represent men everywhere) is a little tougher than the typical trans experience I would assume

Who is to say Caitlyn hasn't been Learning about he LGBT community before her transition? She's actually been struggling with her gender identity for decades it seems.... If she wants to raise awareness for the LGBT community I don't see why not. That shouldn't ever be discouraged I feel. I get what Raven is saying but she can't assume Caitlyn has no knowledge of LGBT issues prior to her public announcement

i feel like this girl has an opinion on everything and feels the need to voice every thought that runs through her mind.  some things are better left unsaid.
