What is your one complaint about ARTPOP?

it all depends on your personal opinion i'd say because i found the album to have a lot of depth and substance and the only generic and "bop" songs are MANiCURE & Gypsy imo, i would liken it's depth to that of Born This Way actually and i would say that they have a similar theme, that theme of self acceptance and expression is still present, it's just that ARTPOP is less about your s-xuality and identity, to me it's more about your own expression and how you carry yourself AFTER you have finally accepted yourself.

And as for me, I've been listening to The Fame religiously and I am craving her to go back to her simple aesthetic, where her lyrics were quirky but still about a generic subject matter, I love the sarcasm on it, that's also why I like MATD's album Electra Heart because it's sarcastic also. I feel that a good, quirky, slightly generic album in the vein of TF would work wonders for her right now. Maybe not about fame though obviously since she has spoke about that for several records now.

I don't know whether to like or not your post because I only agree with the first paraghaph :green: Generic music is not what I'm asking for right now

I included a chorus after the breakdown

Oh, I thought you had included a chorus from another song

well it also depends on whether you call TF generic or not bc I know I would but what I mean is not necessarily the predictable stuff like is on the radio rn, I mean a generic production with catchy hooks but deeper meanings ala LoveGame or PokerFace.

But literally the first seven songs of the album are either explicitly about s-x or have some illusion to s-x in them. The rest of the album seems to focus on equally asinine subjects like fashion and d--gs (this is generalising, though, as there are a few very meaningful songs interspersed throughout).

Strangely enough I found Gypsy one of the only genuine songs on the album where it's obvious she wrote the lyrics that she wanted to write, rather than the lyrics that she thought she should write. ARTPOP, DWUW, Swine, Dope and Gypsy, in my opinion, are the only songs on the album that truly feel like genuine expressions of Gaga. Then again only she knows the truth.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

I see a lot of hate towards the album; however, I want to say something that I really liked about this era. I don't have a lot of money personally and I felt as if this era was almost for the monsters who didn't. Her album was cheaper than her older ones, my artRAVE ticket was only a hundred dollars, which isn't bad for getting right up in front of the stage.

Like this era had a lots of ups and downs, BUT it allowed those who couldn't afford the ultimate experience of seeing the great Lady in concert a time of their own.

The only thing that was extremely expensive was meet and greets which I hope get flexible soon too! Would love to meet her.

The tracks on this record have a lot of adrenaline in them which to some is a no no. I think that was just a way from her to distract herself from her sorrows. Now; years later, she's happy which in my opinion will relieve the amount of adrenaline and will make her music jaw dropping again!

The Swinefest versions were near perfect, why did she change them :cryga:

The vocals. I don't know if it was how they were edited or how Gaga recorded them, but they just don't sound right.

it's because it was all true electronic music ergo full of vocal layering and autotune

The biggest complaint for me is that the album lacks soul. I know it's electronic music, but somehow the songs need more honest emotion in my opinion. I think the fact that her voice is so much edited (to fit the electronic production) makes it sound soulless :noparty: Many of the songs are obivously personal to her and she wrote them, but unfortunately I can't find the pure feeling from them. After all ARTPOP is an album full of party songs, so probably her goal wasn't to make the music ''soulful''.

I never get why people say this though like, the only differences were some lyrics were different and they were live... that's literally it, like everyone criticises Swine for example, but the legit only differences between the studio and swinefest were the BPM was faster live & the build-up/breakdown was edited down and sped up.

Aura - pretty much the same

MANiCURE - only changing the bridge lyrics into the second half of the chorus

ARTPOP - no difference beyond louder bgvox

J&D - added breakdown

Sex Dreams- had the second biggest change overall- slower tempo, less chorus lyrics (made the chorus baron and repetitive imo) and different bridge & bridge beat

Swine - faster BPM and edited build-up/breakdown

IWBWY - most change, changed entirely into Dope

Applause - no change.

HOWEVER, some of the differences were nice I admit, like I preferred the less layered format of SD as opposed to the album version

My only complaint was that I wish it was more cohesive and had a theme....I LOVED how Venus and G.U.Y. meshed, like placing them right next to each other was smart they both share a theme (Venus, Aphrodite, Himeros and Greek/Roman mythology) and I though that was awesome. I wish she would stuck with more of something like that considering the cover art is very inspired by that them as well... The only other song that mention anything else like that is MJH when she VERY briefly mentions Apollo. I think thats what ruined the album for me... All her other albums has had a theme and it all flowed. ARTPOP had a ton of ideas but nothing really went together. If you listen to the first three tracks one right after another you think (wow, this album is friggin amazing) but after that it just kinda flounders like a fish outta water.

Aura was tre flawless demo version, MANiCURE was much much much better, it had a better melody, a better intro, better bridge, better everything... SD's original bridge was better too. J&D breakdown was really cool. Swine is the same **** basically, whatever.
