Except Ariana is not known for her vocals. She is known more for her commercial hits. And now probably more known for the donut thing. Many people I know and on the internet still think Ariana is just another manufactured popatar.

I believe if she rehearsed with a vocal trainer for 6 months on a single performance she would come up with one of the most impressive vocal performances the industry have ever seen.

She does bring attention cause of her talent and amazing vocals. There is others who get that too. But nowadays I must say she is one of the very rare artists who can actually sing live.

But her technique is way off, Mariah was trained by her Opera singer mother. Ariana lacks cord closure and resonance thats why she can't enunciate properly and produce a clear tone.

Her vocal technique is only flawed when singing in her higher register and for the record Mariah was always judged for her technique, some even claim it was partially the reason for her vocal weakening. Gaga's voice is naturally more tamed and is much easier to control. The main reason for Ariana's breath control problem is her overly done vocal riffs and (as you mentioned) breathy vocals, which she showcased she could clearly sing without numerous times already and all of her vocal issues vanished once she did.

So I do believe if Ariana worked just a little more harder to find her voice (like Gaga did) she would without a doubt become one of this generation's top vocalists.

The other pop stars only get mass attention because they lip sync, do something embarrassing, or just have an overall very bad performance.

Lip syncing doesn't hurt a performances quality, Britney is a Great performer despite miming.

but to answer your question, i think her and bey are the only female artists who can attract mass media attention with their performances.

everyone's lip synching from time to time. they're just not as dumb as brit to use vocals fromt he 2000s
