Okay sis. Earthquakes can't predict earthquakes. You can predict that an earth quake is overdue ,but that doesn't mean it happens next week. It could happen anytime as calmar already stated. It can happen tomorrow or next year or in 100 years. 

The earth quake in Nepal for example was long overdue but they couldn't predict exactly when it would happen. You can also predict what places are more likely to have an earthquake.

Well either way you guys, it's going to happen. "fear mongering" or not. The fact the earthquake is overdue is scary. Rather than having some unnecessary drama in this thread and pointless name calling, try focus on what this thread is actually about. 

There is an earthquake that IS coming and WILL kill people, and judging from some of the people in this thread who actually live in the region that will be influenced DIRECTLY by the earthquake (not to mention the tsunami(s) that will follow) who were not aware of its coming, I'm a little scared by how this is not actually getting around.

It might not happen today or tomorrow or this year, but I mean, people have the right to know about the urgency and size of the incoming threat. I didn't see the Title before the change but just abouy everything in this thread hasn't been helpful or productive at all.

Hopefully people start making some sort of plans and preparations so they can be safe. I mean the idea that thousands of people won't escape is terrifying, I mean even if it only happens decades from now, people need to know about this

I thought this was common knowledge as well but I guess not. Authorities really need to make people more aware of possible issues and events in the future. Let's hope this does not happen at all!

I don't want to sound naive but if that earthquake was knocking on the door tomorrow, why the authoritis haven't made any preventive measures and try to relocate as many people as possible? Wouldn't it be criminal for the government to let people there die if it can be avoided?

and i'lm from northern cali and we've been hearing about this forever  . i remember back in middleschool and highschool the morning news every year would have that story "is the big one coming this year? what you need to know to be ready next on news 10"  

 

there is no ready when the ground begins to shake

Smaller yes, but we still don't know if it also happens with larger one. But it's a topic that is researched.

and honestly editing the title to "in the next 50 years" is so out of spite and downplaying the whole situation. why do we honestly have such people existing...

I'm placing a bet that you're not even in the Pacific Northwest region to even comprehend. You're typing from across another part of the world like it's so easy. 

Your original title was (caps and all)  "MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE & TSUNAMIS COMING - 13,000 will die!"

It made it seem as if there had been a massive earthquake, a tsunami was coming and an estimated 13,000 people where going to die.

I edited the part of the title you are questioning from this quote in an article you linked "He said in the next 50 years, there is a 1-in-10 chance a "really big one" will erupt". Not only was it the article you linked, but was referenced by users in the discussion. I didn't edit anything out of spite, to suggest I had some sort of personal vendetta against you and edited the title to attack you is absurd.

I edited it in a way that made it more clear that it wasn't an immediate threat (as in not happening this second) while also trying to make it clear that we were "overdue" on the earthquake.

For the record, no I don't personally live in the Pacific Northwest region, but I wouldn't want my aunt, uncle and 5-year-old cousin to die in a giant tsunami. The edit in no way undermined the real risks of the situation or suggested that nobody should worry or do anything, it was just to clarify it wasn't happening at this moment.

I'm going to leave the title as it is now cause it's still fine like that really, but in the future don't re-edit a post/thread unless you have consulted the mod in question first.

Earth is overdue for a LOT of things, like the super volcano erupting or the north & south poles switching which would be a disaster for the whole world

Anything could happen in our lifetime, there's no point worrying about one particular thing that 'might' happen when literally anything could happen
