I'm not derailing, you are. I replied to a user saying what should be a solution to this and it doesn't apply in this girl's case.

Merkel was put in a difficult situation but it's still extremely disappointing how she didn't even present a plan for the future. I don't want to derail this thread into an Israel/Palestine discussion but the fact is that the idea of Palestinians being 100% unable to move to another country is one of the more cruel and heartless outcomes of the States'/Europe's stubborn stance on the acknowledgment of the Palestinian territories which is needed for a lot of reasons.

And I don't really care that it makes her look bad, it exposes the criminality of political organizations in the world and the laughable idea of a supposedly Christian party turning its back on people who have been and are systematically violated and murdered and have no way of getting out of their situation on their own terms (and no, I'm not just talking about Palestinians).

I don't automatically support the idea of concentrating on making the world a better place but then at least don't pretend that you're trying to do anything related to that. I miss some brutal honesty sometimes. I'd prefer a politican saying that the well-being of citizens isn't a priority over a politican who comforts a girl when she's crying because she can't have the life others take for granted, referring to the situation as "difficult". It's not difficult.

I don't understand why everyone is blaming her. Of course it's horrible to have to tell someone they can't stay and they don't have a country but tbh most politician would have not shown any empathy, so i think she did her best according he situation, it would be nice to remember politician are also human and can be clumsy is some situation esp. this one, it's quite emotional.

i think it is mean how they bring Merkel in such a situation, what is she supposed to do? say "yes little girl you can stay here" would result in others demanding this same equal procedure, staying here.

If she says no then she becomes the bad mean one rejecting a little girl.

 

I think it is not a solution if all refugees come here, it doesn't solve the problem by its roots, it is just an instant "pain killer" but not  a long term solution.

 

The problems should be solved by all people changing their own country. Finding "energy withtin themselves" rather than seeking shelter elsewhere and thus "sucking other's energy". This is just meant as a metaphor. I mean if they would all just be one huge group and cooperating together, with peace and love in mind rather than violence...they could change sooo much.

You identify the problem correctly, but the conclusion you come to in the final paragraph is nonsensical and, to be honest, a little silly. Refugees aren't just people who want to live somewhere else. There's a difference between a refugee and an immigrant. These people come from war-torn countries, or are victims of genocide, apartheid, diaspora, terrible things like that. The suggestion that refugees can just band together and take their country back is naive. There's a reason they're the victims, and not the perpetrators.

But you are right that there is really no way Merkel could have responded to this situation without somebody having a problem with it. I think what she tried to do - sympathize with a sympathetic character while sticking true to her principles nonetheless - was good, but the PR team blatantly recasting the event was the real mistake.

#1 Germany could increase its refugee intake but there has to be a limit and laws to prevent just anyone from coming in

 

#2 Angela Merkel is a Chancellor not a Dictator. She cant do everything she pleases so even if she wanted to extend an exeption for her she cant do that, the laws are set and unless changed by whole Government, even she cant bend them

 

#3 it would be bad to make an exeption just because she was caught on camera and in front of people... theres other people iin simmilar circumstances so if she got mercy it would be unfair if everyone else didnt.

I think  you didn't understand a thing about itt  It's a fact that we take the most refugees. that discussion there is about sending people back to their countries.

The girl's story is very sad, but Merkel did nothing wrong.

An appeal to emotion. I see. It's an unfortunate situation, but frankly, this is irrelevant. Immigration policy shouldn't be based on "teh feels".
