They did not transcend a moment or represent an authentic artistic statement like Bad Romance or Thriller. And the thing is, the videos that get nominated don't HAVE to be popular. A lot of artists have won throughout the decades who had lower budget videos, but they were still artistically valuable (e.g., Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer). It's sad that these are the videos that people think are deserving. I'm happy that FKA Twigs got some nominations, though. Her and Kendrick are way more deserving than Bey and T. Swift.
