StrawberryBlond 14,873
Regardless of whether she's Taylor's friend or not, she can't be pulling one hit wonders onto stage. Is Lorde going to live off the success of that one song forevermore or something? Can you imagine Meghan Trainor singing All About That Bass on stage with Taylor two years from now? Or Carly Rae coming on to sing Call Me Maybe? It would be totally random and just point to what a one hit wonder they were. Taylor's inviting way too many famous "friends" to sing on stage with her on this tour, it's becoming so cringey. Can't stand this "I'm friends with everyone (except Katy Perry and my exes)" persona Taylor has going on. It seems like nothing but a ploy to introduce her to other fanbases. She did the same thing on her previous tours. I guess, unlike many other top artists, she doesn't mind sharing the spotlight for a little while. It's probably fun for her to get to sing with her friends and other artists and her fans get a surprise at some of the concert stops. Seems like a pretty good time for everyone involved. I know, but she's been doing it on this tour in excess. I don't think it's a case of her being humble enough to share the spotlight, it's about getting mentioned in the papers and magazines and getting the invited guest's fans to pay attention to her. That's the reason behind 95% of these onstage cameos at concerts, let's be real here. If you've never collabed with the person, there's certainly very little reason to bring them on and I'm sorry but "they're my friend" isn't good enough reasoning to my mind. It just looks like promotion and showing off to me. She has been doing this ever since the Fearless Tour And she is friends with her exes Educate yourself But that's just my point - this is a shameless marketing tactic that is really transparent and she's been using it for too long. And forgive me for thinking she hated all her exes. I just thought considering how she massacres them in her songs and is never pictured with them again after they've split was indicative of something. It's also a trend in Country music. Maybe she got the idea from other country artists. Either way, it's a win-win for everyone involved, including her fans. The guest artist appearances don't take away from the show, as Taylor is already on the stage for well over two hours. Is it a good marketing move? Of course! It benefits everyone involved. A big portion of music today is marketing yourself, and Taylor is definitely one of the smartest artists in the current music climate. You don't get to the top for going on 10 years now without being smart in the business side of making music. She has made smart decisions in the past and she continues to do so in the present. Yeah probably. But she also does it because it's a cool surprise for the fans. The guests get more exposure than her from it anyways. The biggest guest she's ever gotten was probably Jennifer Lopez. It's not like people like The Weekend, that dude from Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry in 2009, Sam Smith before he was really famous etc. are HUGE and OMG SHE'S LATCHING ONTO THEM FOR RELEVANCY!!!1!1!11! or the sell or to get more promo. And it's not like she needs it either. She's had the best selling album two years straight, three #1 this era and a sold out world tour. Lol keep trying who will love me when the night is over

Some marketing is good, some isn't. And with Taylor, it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. It just all seems like a big master plan to be the biggest artist in the world, with no genuine feeling behind it. She's more businesswoman than singer these days to me. After Fearless, it just felt like she was in this game for the money, and after her big sellout with 1989, I couldn't be more convinced. And I think if she didn't have the amazing marketing team behind her, she wouldn't be as big as she is now. Anyone with a basic level of talent can get far these days if they've got a supportive team who stop at nothing to make them huge. oh my god you're so bitter, it's hilarious Is it for PR? This is like people telling me I'm obsessed with people I hate. Don't worry, I'm in no denial about it, so it's not an insult. I think we're all obsessed with people we hate anyway. It's always for the fans when it's Taylor, isn't it? You lot just never think she does anything for personal gain, don't you? And as I've been repeating elsewhere today, it doesn't matter how relevant the feature is or their level of fame in comparison to the headliner, they just need to be another famous person. A fanbase is a fanbase. And when fanbases work together, the promotion for one another is insane. Taylor doesn't need to latch onto others for relevancy but it seems like she latches onto them as another promotional technique. It never strikes me as being from the heart. You think she brought all the girls from her Bad Blood video on stage because she truly loved them all? No, it was for the press and to draw more attention to her video. They didn't sing vocals on the track, none of them are singers, so why were they there other than for a shameless plug?

She's consistent with her sales and concert numbers and is even topping herself this era. I can't imagine anyone in the music industry calling that a bad marketing plan. Lol We are looking at Taylor having the best selling album of 2014 and 2015 and probably the biggest tour of the year. Along with all of this, she has critical success and industry respect as well. Yeah, that's why I graduated HS with a special mentions diploma, slayed my first year of uni and am moving to London next year there because I got offered a full scholarship due to my grades.
