More than half of everybody who voted the last time was over 60. Germany is old and won't change till the next 40 years tbh. Public opinion can change very quickly... back in 1980 in the Netherlanda the christian parties had an absolute majority, in 2004 they had 40/150 seats and in 2012 they had 12/150 seats and the Christian party here actually supports gay marriage. I'm sure someone will jump in about "rights" but if both have the same benefits then it's not an issue of "rights" at all. It's an issue of semantics.Of course there will be a difference of treatment because if you reserve marriage for straight people, all administration will know people's s-xuality indirectly through their civil status. Embracing the differences and allDifferent is inherently unequal. When you give different things to different people, that is not equal.And as a gay person, I want EQUAL.It's not just a name issue. It's about letting gay couples celebrate their love the same way straight couples do.But to be completely honest your opinion is irrelevant because this is already a done deal in my country. She made a simple statement that in her opinion she would call it something else honestly who cares??? No politician is gonna have 100% personal views u agree with on everything so if yur gonna quible over a statement that on top of that isnt even gonna have any impact on policies then why the distress? Were not a gender blind or genderless society. If we ever attain that it wont be in our lifetimes. Stuff from each gender gets different labels and names thats just how it is. If she felt she wanted a different description when its 2 ppl of the same s-x so what? u yall dont have to agree with her logic (or lack there of). But it really isnt a big deal.
